If you make Mexico a Protectorate (or _insert word for special territorial status_) and you institute the multi-decades long process for full entry into the United States for all the Mexican states, AND you have a detailed, thorough, and rigorous plan for HOW, when, why, where, and to whit, this new protectorate territory is to be administered, then yes: Mexico could be a buffer.chijohnaok wrote:If you ANNEX Mexico, that makes it part of the United States.Anthropoid wrote:
Mexico should be a sufficient buffer.
There would no longer be a buffer.
There would be no border at the Rio Grande.
Once a Honduran crossed the border with “old” Mexico you wouldn’t see another border traveling north until you got to Canada.
Impose more strict martial law-esque standards of border control and immigration control inside Mexico and in particular in those regions where trafficking between Mexico and other Central American countries is prevalent; eliminate all the existing institutional, criminal and grass-roots systems which promote, facilitate and profit from the trafficking of people through Mexico to the U.S.; take a machete to all the corruption, mismanagement, crime and nepotism which makes Mexico such a basket case and is the most significant upstream driver of illegal invaders into the U.S. both from Mexico and other Central American locations . . . Declare the concept of "Sanctuary" espoused by ANY sovereignty that finds itself subordinate to the U.S. Federal system to be illegal, if not treasonous and give a 30 day warning to any and all to cease and desist or face criminal charges. When the time frame runs out, then begin pick the most juicy target and arrest, charge, indict and prosecute and make sure the courts are sufficiently cleared before hand that the case can fly through at max possible speed while still maintaining the highest standards of justice . . . Serious efforts to solve the U.S. problems with illegal invaders to the country would adopt some or all of these type of measures, but would at least achieve the net degree of coherence and rigor which this set comprises. Half-baked, half-assed, half-hearted efforts like "walls" and bickering about ethical/moral issues when there are pretty obvious breaches of existing Federal laws is bullshit.
Or, just futz around "TRYING" to impose more strict border regulation procedures and "build a wall" while meanwhile thousands of districts in the U.S. have proclaimed themselves "sanctuaries" of illegal invaders to the larger sovereign of which they are a part.
