1864

Danish TV-series about the 1864 Danish-German war. You can find it online with English subtitles. I liked it...

You mean there was something besides the American Civil War going on in 1864?

IIRC Prussia and Austria teamed up to bully Denmark into relinquishing Northern German territory. When they didn't comply the Allies attacked and whipped the small state. The Danes didn't lose catastrophically but lose they did the attackers got their political wishes and drew, if I'm not mistaken, the border between the Germany and Denmark as it is today. That's why there is a Danish minority in Norther Germany.

Interesting subject matter. I suppose it still means a lot in Denmark since it was their last major war. A forgotten war in Austria and I suppose in Germany as well.

Thx for sharing.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't there also a small German minority in southern Denmark (North Schleswig)?

The Danish-German border was adjusted after WWI, with some territory reverting to Danish control. It was, supprisingly, not changed by Hitler after the German occupation of Denmark during WWII.

Maybe...

...but before you get too deep into it, remember that Denmark is too small to deploy anything but token forces to Sherman's march to the sea. Germany is not the natural enemy of the United States. If Germany wants to eat Denmark's lunch it's not American taxpayers job to foot the bill for the defence of Europe...

I have just seen it on YLE, the Finnish Broadcasting Company with Finnish subtitles. I can cope with written Danish poorly, but spoken Danish is like speaking Swedish with a hot potato in mouth, quite incomprehensible.

Ja, I liked it the story.

Actually I was about the post about the same thing. I even did some reading about the Second Schleswig War to put the battles on the map.

Keep posting, the Estonian 1944 was new to me. ;)
