Company of Heroes has got to be the most frustrating game (at least for the demo). I thought I'd give it a try and see if I liked it or not. Even on "Easy" the AI beats the crap out of me in "Skirmish". Is there a trick to it? How the hell are you supposed to win the game? There's just too much micromanagement needed and the battlefield is too expansive for all the micromanagment required. I've gotten slaughtered every time. Is the whole game as difficult to play as the demo?

I have the game and loaded it but I cant play it until I free up some space on my drive. It takes 7GB!!! However I recommend that you get the complete version anyway because its an exquisite work of art regardless and a must for all WWII officiando's.

I can beat it at the hardest level fairly easily.

The key is AT guns and engineers. Take whatever tech tree you need to get to AT guns ASAP.

Build as many as fast as you can, build sandbags to protect them, and use barbed wire and tank traps to funnel the oponents to your guns.

Like this:

----------------

ooooooooooooo

ATGun goes here backed up by infantry squad for instant replacements.

Where X = Tank traps, these stop the tanks from plowing down your barbed wire and sandbags. While your AT guns take them out.

- = barbed wire This slows down the infantry rush while your infantry takes them down.

ooooooo = sand bags to protect your guns.

Always have an infantry squad as a backup.

Also, build lots of machine gun nests as these are like extra troops. I build them right after taking a flag pointed right at the flag. When the AI tries to take the flag, they get mowed down.

Really, once you get the hang of it, its quite easy.

Also, Para's rock especially when you can drop down AT guns too them as well!

And remember the golden rule:

ABT: Always be turtling. That means your engineers should always be building something somewhere including back at your main base. An idle engineer is a death wish.

Hope that helps!

@ Childress

I agree. I sold the game in disgust. What a friggin abomination.

There's not much strategy involved, just twitch reflexes. And the micromanagement...ugh...reminds me of Heroes:Soldiers of WW2.

Kudos to Angry for being good at it. Not for me tho.

Thanks. I don't play anymore it quickly got boring, and yeah, it is micro hell.

The thing that I hated the most was tanks shooting at each other from 2 feet away just bouncing shells off of each other till one side's power bar ran out. I hate that crap.

Like all RTS's it really comes down to figuring out what the best weapon system / combination is and then finding the fastest possible way to build that. In this case the AT Gun. The one thing I do give the game credit for is the way you could use barbed wire, tank traps and sandbags as force multipliers. That part is very cool. Battlefield preparation has a huge impact in this game which is rather unique for a WWII RTS as far as I know.
