My Alzheimer's must be progressing. Totally forgot about this thread and posted "Angry Joes" final review of the game in the Youtube Favorites thread

Not sure if any of you guys are Fallout fans (meaning the game series). Bethesda has planted themselves deeply into one of the most intense marketing and PR dumpster fires in recorded game industry history. Here is one that fairly well summarizes it. Hopefully the corporate scum bags who are likely responsible will wake the fuck up and stop walking their golden goose IP ever closer to a streamlined, dumbed-down, brazen, ham-fisted cash-grab simulator.

Fallout 76 Is So Awesome It Causes Time Travel

Official cover art for Bethesda's Fallout 76.

Do you want to know how awesome Fallout 76 is? When you first pop your shiny new game disc into your console, you have to wait about FOUR HOURS to play. That’s because SURPRISE! There’s a massive 53-GB download waiting for you. Even on broadband, that’s gonna take a while.

What on earth was on the disc, then? Apparently just a download link and an EULA.

A few days after that nifty little download, game dev Bethesda recognized it has a bit of a messy game on its hands and released an update patch.

The patch was 47 GB.

Think I'll pass on this one.

It's really had to imagine how Bethesda can continue to be this out of touch with the community and now they roll out a $100 a year game subscription for fallout 76

:?

They expect people to shell out $100/yr subscription?

Bethesda released a "vr compatible" version of Skyrim. It's 59.99 to re buy a game I already own. What a deal

If it is either (a) Fallout Micro-Transactions; or (b) Fallout Pay-to-win, I want no part of it.

If it is Fallout, not too much different from Fallout 4 before they morphed it into a Micro-Transaction marketplace, but with Coop, I'll wait till it is six months or so old and MAYBE check it out. If it has no free modding capacity, I'll not be inclined to purchase.

I reckon there are hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of us who will approach it about the same way, yet that is probably precisely what Altman (the CEO who calls the shots I guess, a declared Clinton supporter no less and obvious sleaze bag) will tell his studio to do: chase the current trend in monetization.

Fallout 2 was brilliant, Fallout 3 even better, Fallout New Vegas was fine, Fallout 4 was astounding and wonderful though fatally flawed (the whole building system is pointless given the computer opponents are completely incapable of overcoming any defenses and in fact defenses do not matter at all). Fallout 1 with the Fixt mod is a fun game, but exemplary of the somewhat skewed notion of how RNG harshness made for "good gaming" which was the norm back in the day. A true classic, but the graphics are hard to look at these days and the game is full of gaps and inconsistencies.

All bow before the incredible prescience of Anthrostrodamus . . .
