Got a newer computer. Nothing fancy, maybe an upper middle rig, but better than 5 years old one. i-7 1060 card. Basically about standard, she can run most current programs anyway. Biggest thing I notice is ssd  Holy mackerel what a difference :o she boots almost instantly and load screens are nothing but splash screens. I'll take a game down, then reopen it and my save is loaded almost instantly!

:+: wanders off raving about this new fangled technology :+:

You can actually have something like 6 SSDs on Raid-5 or Raid-0 setup. One setup means it looks like there's only one drive but it has theoretical speed multiplier of the amount of drives connected since they're mirror images - you can be reading the file from say 6 different spots simultaneously to finish it faster but bandwidths become a limiting factor at some point.

The other setup means you get more space while each byte is present on two separate drives meaning if one of the drives goes out the filesystem remains whole and you lose no data while also having a speed bump of iirc. double the speed when not limited by bandwidth.

Then again even a single SSD with some 450-550MB/s read speed is leaps and bounds away from the shitty 120-160MB/s of standard hard drives - and the filesystem doesn't fragment and lose speed.

Mind you that you need to replace the normal PC SSDs faster than conventional drives due to wear of the memory sectors that is more rapid. It's a good idea to have a big secondary mass storage conventional drive for storage and for stuff that has immense amounts of I/O operations, I have currently three conventional ones and two SSDs on the main rig.

I'm going to need a bigger ssd b/c this ones almost filled. The computer also has a tit byte of old timer hard drive to use but I'm now too spoilt for that shit. Looked at the computers guts it's shelf bought but nothings hardwired. I can pull that old stuff out. I want this computer to last 5 years like the other one did. Need at least a 4 tit ssd.

You can save space on your SSD by only having your operating system and games where speed really matters on it.

You don't need to save all your porn pics & vids or your cat photos on your SSD---save all that stuff on your old slow ass hard drive. ;-)

Yeah, I've almost forgotten what it's like to not have an SSD. That is pretty much vital gear these days.

Though I have an old school dual boot so it's still a slight faff, I probably need to change that. ;)

SSD's rock. One thing to note, you should NOT have disk defragmenting turned on for it. It won't improve performance but it can wear them out quicker. At least that's what the manual for mine says.
