3 thumbs up as a budget 8 core 16 thread processor thus far.

Hi sven, how you been?

I assume you're using this for content creation and not just gaming. Some questions:

What were you using previously? Are you on Windows 10? How are your CPU temps? If using Wraith cooler, how loud/quiet is it? Are you overclocking?

I'm still more than satisfied with my Intel 4790k (Gaming), 3770 (Hackintosh) & G3258 (Steam Machine) systems. I don't do much rendering these days but you never know...

FX-8350, yes I was an early adopter of Win 10 privacy warts and all, they are fine the Wraith Spire cooler allows you to OC to 3.7 with less than 5% gain in base temps....you start getting past that you are creeping into the "Silicon Lottery."

There are multiple ways with Ryzen to skin the OC cat, I simply turned up the multiplier to 3.5ghz and it will still turbo to 3.7.

I gave the wife the 8350, my son is currently on an A-10 6800k I may give him the 8120 I retired to get the new processor for rendering.

In all honesty unless you are looking for better 1440p graphics performance I would stick with your main box.

That said I could not be more thrilled, Ryzen's "poor" performance in games is not borne out by my experience. I have it coupled with a GTX 1070 and am running ddr4 that is far from screaming speed latency wise.

I am currently playing Mass Effect Andromeda and will write a review here tomorrow. If I decide to buy the game after my 10 hour Origin demo on it I will probably create some Youtube content on it and let you know how it does on rendering.

I just built a new PC based on the i5-6600k. My next one will be AMD based.

I have a low end system with gtx 970, i5-4670 cpu and 16gb of ddr3 1333mhz iirc.

I rarely get excited by games for more than 5 minutes except for games like Factorio into which I've sunk hundreds of hours and it runs on anything.

The real reason why I have such a low end setup is that it keeps me true on the optimization part. If I can run what I develop in editor environment most other people can run the builds.

The Rysen 5 will be the way for you to go.... ~ 95% of the I5's single core speed with 6 cores and hyperthreading...
