There's going to be a Cold Waters campaign set fighting China soonish apparently, all new enemies to blow up.

Guess it won't exactly be cold then, aside from Cold War cold, but no more icebergs and pack ice. ;)

I would rather they have just started working on new DLC campaigns. Such as adding a late 80s or early 90s Soviet campaign, a British campaign because we require Traffies, and a new Pacific map campaign for US boats.

But I'll not complain much about getting a free campaign against the Chinese & new vessels to go with it. These devs have added a huge amount of post-release improvements & freebies. Above and beyond. 8-)

The China campaign for Cold Waters is available as a beta release on Steam now.

Seawolf class subs are in it...

Late sub tech versus shitty old '50s era Soviet warship equipment = slaughterfest. :?

Still want my '80s-'90s Soviet, British, etc campaigns. Hoping they were just doing the newer China 2000 scenario to get the Pacific map up & running as a prelude to getting some late '80s Akula campaign DLC against the Japs & Yanks (along with a north Atlantic, two-in-one).

The Seawolf is definitely easy mode.

The water is a lot shallower around China though, so there is that. The South China Sea is 200m depth mostly.

Having played it a bit now, the Chinese campaign is NOT easy. I'd say it's about the same as the 1984 campaign in general.

Torpedoes in general seem another notch better than the 1984 campaign. The ADCAPs the Americans have are obviously top of the line but the Chinese torpedoes seem more persistent than the ones the Soviets had in 1984 as well. Knuckles or noisemakers don't seem to be 100% against the better Chinese torps.

The Chinese have a lot of extremely quiet submarines too. The Ming and Song class SSKs are hard to find. The Improved Kilo, ditto. All 'very quiet'. I find myself using active sonar quite a lot to sweep for the buggers, and then rely on the fact the ADCAP is better than what they are firing back at you. You didn't generally need to use active sonar much against Soviets.

Chinese surface forces are a bit weak though, I wouldn't bother Harpooning Russian escorts but Chinese frigates seem pretty weak against that sort of thing. The fact the Seawolf has 8 tubes helps too, did one of those 'destroy the amphibious invasion' missions, loaded up 8 Harpoons, fired the lot, and about 75% of the convoy was a burning wreck within a couple of minutes. That shit would not fly on the r00skies.

The terrain is as bad as threatened too, 250m depth to play with is not unusual at all. Makes the 'attack land target with cruise missiles' missions actually surprisingly dangerous.

They added a couple of USN surface ships and four Evil Bloc submarines - Charlie I, Alfa, and November, and the Chinese Han class.

Quick play only at the moment though.

Yeesh. The Charlie I and November will be noisy as cats fucking in a metal culvert. I wonder why they didn't go with a Charlie II.

Not gonna complain about more content. I've still been expecting them to put out a new DLC with some British & Soviet playables. It's as if the devs are obsessed with adding more free stuff.

Still yankee voices though, my Alfa needs a bit more BLYA BLYA going on when I torpedo capitalists.

Man the Alfa is crazy. You can't die in this thing unless you get caught by surprise, evading torpedoes is literally a case of 'flank speed, grab a cup of tea and wait'.

On the other hand while dashing out of there at crazy speed everything within 1000 miles can hear you so the AI fires torps until they are pretty much all out.... and the Alfa's own torpedoes are terribad compared to the ADCAP.
