Navy would never ship army troops anywhere, so Army had it's own fleet. No cooperation on radar research or even nuclear research with complete duplication of effort.

I started a game, but mostly running on autopilot to see how things play out. I took off the historical checks, so Switzerland is now dead. I guess the only way to learn is to watch shit happen.

I normally play with Historical checked on, but playing around with alternate histories can sometimes be fun.

There is a player created mod called “Kaiserreich”, predicated on the Central Powers having won WW 1.

In Kaiserreich its interesting to see German colonies in Africa and China and to see its naval fleet still containing pre-dreadnought battleships.

Second night in a row that I've stayed up way past my bed time playing the Third Reich. Thing I'm getting the hang of it.

I think HOI4 is basically a very complicated but fundamentally arcadey game. It's something you play for a laugh. Like Rise of Nations back in the day.

I think they actually had multiplayer in mind with this one too, and it does show. You can squeeze out a game pretty much in one sitting, though it's a stretch. The netcode and such works pretty well. It's fun, it's even pretty hectic tbh for a strategy game, lots of balls to juggle.

I notice the new DLC has seriously revised convoy damage. I have submarines sinking 30, 40, 50 convoys in one battle - the UK will be rekt completely in a few months of that sort of damage. The Battle of the Atlantic is going to be no joke for Britain now. I've found myself as Japan against the dozy AI having fleets set to convoy protection for the first time ever.

Submarines were fairly marginal unless you really invested heavily into submarine warfare and the enemy didn't bother with ASW. I suspect that may well now be different.

I don't have the Kitty Kat package, but I do have the latest patch and yes: as long as they are properly pimped, subs are fairly effective.

But if you send out a bunch of Tier I subs without any doctrines or techs to boost them, they will go to the bottom without much to show for it.

Course, it could be there is different code coming in to play with the Kitty Kat package. I kinda doubt that. Seems more like the patch which is common to the core game is where those changes are, which is to say: I suspect comparing my observations with the latest patch but without the Tiger Waking Up is comparing the same thing as if the Tiger was Awake.

AFAICT the post-patch debugging is going strong and we might get a game rolling?

If it's naval focused - about time, the naval game is dire atm.
