Didn't they just put out an update that changes the War Goal stuff a bit?

It reminds me of the War Goal restrictions in Victoria 2, which I thought were.. interesting.. for the era. Often very restrictive; I presume due to other nations taking offense to anyone munching up too much territory in one go. Not sure how much they should adjust that for a space 4x though. Sounds more like a way to keep a big bully race from blobbing uncontrollably.

There are some awesome Vicky 2 mods btw that bring things into line with history a lot more.

The Historical Project Mod includes free casus belli for the Great Game, Scramble for Africa, and Chinese treaty ports, which mean you can pretty much do what happened for reals effortlessly. Very cool when I played em. ;)

Quote:
Rogue Servitors
Rogue Servitors are robotic servants built by an organic species to make their own lives easier, eventually assuming full control of their creators' civilization. They start with their creator species present on the planet with the Bio-Trophy citizenship type, and can integrate conquered organic Pops by granting them this status. Bio-Trophies are largely useless Pops that require large amounts of consumer goods and can only operate special Organic Sanctuary buildings that produce Unity. However, in addition to the Unity generated by these sanctuaries, Servitors also have a special mechanic called Servitor Morale, representing the Servitors' prime directive to protect and care for organic beings. The greater the percentage of a Rogue Servitors' population that is made up of Bio-Trophies, the higher the Servitor Morale, granting a direct boost to empire influence gain.

Robots With Human Zoos.

It's likely been written about before. But that definitely has some comedy potential.

Asimov, anyone? Everyone rips off Asimov, from Star Wars to Wh40k.

I think I was most dissatisfied with the Swedish developers goal to push their own social democrat agenda into the games. In Victoria games initially you had to rush towards a modern Sweden style socialism or else your entire country would be rioting within a few years. And what was funny about the riots was that they'd have some of the best units suddenly available - the rebels - units that you couldn't even have yourself.

They did the same with Stellaris. Everyone wants peace, everyone wants a Space UN. Everyone hates orbital bombardment and war, even the most aggressive and xenophobic species absolutely loathe if some sentient snails beat the shit out of a bunch of sentient ants.

They all respect International Space Law which means that you have to hold on to truces and such. There is no extermination in the game whatsoever. Not even a proper war.

Fleet battle is once more typical Paradox rubberballing after tiny detachments that cannot be caught that never the less cause all sorts of annoyance. Actual fleet battles are simply throwing a bigger stack of ships at the enemy.

It is impressive as hell when you start but one is quickly disillusioned by the shallowness.

Ahem, you can eat, enslave&work to death, merely enslave and expulse alien pops with the proper ethics no problemo.

Determined Exterminators
Determined Exterminators are Machine Empires born of a rogue defense system that turned on its creators when they tried to shut it down. After a bitter war in which their creators were wiped out, Exterminators know only conflict, and consider the sterilization of all higher forms of organic life to be necessary to safeguard their own existence. Similar to Fanatical Purifiers, Exterminators receive substantial boosts to their combat ability, but are unable to conduct diplomacy with organic empires and must purge conquered organic Pops. However, unlike Fanatical Purifiers, they have no problem co-existing and co-operating with other synthetic civilizations (including other Machine Empires and ascended Synths). For this reason, their inherent bonuses are weaker than those of a Fanatical Purifier.

Skynet

Guess what the (even more hostile!) "Fanatical Purifiers" mentioned are all about?

Ah, new stuff - but does it still take hundreds of playing hours due to game mechanics to conquer the galaxy simply because you have to wait 10 years every 5 planets? That was the major speed bump as orbital bombardment didn't do squat.

You're doing it wrong.

Vassalise, absorb vassal.

I only got Stellaris around Easter, seems that was after they fixed things ;)

You can do pretty much whatever, I have come to vassalizing as well but am not so hot on the absorbing.
My space guys only take the occasional forward located system for themselves, and fortify that as a base for future subjugation campaigns. The vassals auto-tag along, their systems are usually on the front lines while my fleets do the real war stuff from those fortress systems.

Forcing AI empires to "Liberate" planets/systems works well for that, giving you instant vassals while avoiding any hassle to deal with alien pops. Which are +7 Food per pop if you are so inclined and find yourselves with any.

The next patch (1.8 Capek) and DLC (as linked above) seems very promising, but then, they always do :)

I´m not sure how multiplayer is, although heated discussions on naked corvette spam indicate online is a thing.

One of the patches highlights is planet resources match planet type, e.g. more Food on Oceans/Jungles and more Minerals on Tundra/Ice.
Groundbreaking concept, yeah.

Can´t wait though!
