I discovered Afrika Korps when I was about 10. Fun game. Super fast to play. A German regiment is worth about two Italian divisions.

Diplomacy is fun but you need a big crowd.

Hard to beat 7 card stud as an adult. Adapts well to drinking.

Figured I'd start easing the kid into strategy games that are heavier than something such as Risk.

IIRC, I started nosing around in tabletop RPGs and wargames at about his age (9). Good time to initiate them.

FREE

1st Edition King Arthur Pendragon
RPG pdf

http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/312 ... st-Edition

During January at DriveThruRPG.com.

I have a physical copy of 2nd (or is it 3rd?) edition, along with The Boy King campaign supplement. Think the newer ones had more content but the system is still much the same IIRC.

Classic RPG with an interesting alternative design compared to those other old creaky RPGs of yesteryear.

Bundle Of Holding has new tabletop RPG bundle deals (PDFs):

This time for Fading Suns, the Revised 2012 edition.

Three starter books at $15, larger bundle option for $25.

http://bundleofholding.com/presents/FadingSuns

I'm not too familiar with the setting, other than it being a "dark age" Sci-Fantasy of a Dune-like nature. Which are always thematically great at providing all kinds of adventure options.

**************

There is also Hunter: The Vigil bundles available.

http://bundleofholding.com/presents/HunterVigil

Uses the modern day World Of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness horror setting system. Although I think you still need to pick up the basic nWoD/CoD core book to get the full ruleset (but the basics are reportedly in one of the Hunter PDFs too).

Bundle of Holding PDFs that you purchase go into your DriveThruRPG.com account. They're the ones who run them.

That full-color thing has a ridiculous amount of flair. Probably TOO busy. But damn!

Diplomacy is awesome, used to play that at college.

The "peacekeeping forces marching into an ally's capital to maintain order" euphemism became a meme in our games.  8-)

Turkey and UK FTW

Diplomacy.

In college I was with a group and this blonde woman was France and I played the UK. At the right moment I seize Brest. Then she gave me a look and dragged me off to her room.

It is in the timing. If you try to seize Brest too early you will get your forces slapped out. Wait too long and you'll never get the chance.
