Both games have been out for a while. JA3 has gotten horrible reviews and CK2 is so far unreviewed. Anyone playing them?

I beta tested CK2. It's good. There are some shining reviews out on it.

While we don't always like all the same genres, I often agree with James' reviews on strategy games:

Out of Eight 8/8

Gamespy 4/5
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/crusader-kings ... 169p1.html

Gamespot 8/10

And of course you can check the biggies out at Metacritic (which is averaging 86% over all reviews thus far)

I'd say it came out pretty damn well received. Also in great shape regarding issues. There was a lot of time spent polishing, but that job never ends does it?

Now back to WoW.

CK2 is awesome.

I like their adverts on youtube as well... hilarious. Viral marketing ftw!

I got JA a few days ago. I hadn't read anythin on it, and was just pumped about a new JA. I was very dissapointed to find out it is the same story as JA2 or almost the same. I jumped into the game expecting to know the ropes but they have changed the game play drastically. Instead of turn based combat it is 'plausible real time". Having not read the manual, I hated it. After going back and running the tutorial, I think I like it better than the old system now.

Visually it is much nicer and you can get closer to a ground level view with the camera. You can set up timed attacks so that more than 1 merc will move an shoot , in a synchronized way.

I don't like the strategic movement as much unless I'm missing something, you can't just stop any ole place and explore, you need to run into an enemy before it lets you out of the world map. Not a big deal, just unexpected. Also don't like that you don't create your own persona in a merc, you only hire them now.

Still very early in the campaign so don't know how the change in training Militia will work, but essentially it is a lot slower to train them as you do it one at a time rather than groups of 10 or whatever it was before. You now have to also provide them with weapons from your own stash. Not sure if this will be better or worse.

Despite the poor reviews, I am having fun with it and would recommend it even at this early stage of playing.

Yeah I was disappointed with the demo. Plays a somewhat like Frozen Synapse. I'm going to pass on this till maybe it's patched a bit.

I've played the JA demo as well and, while it has it's merits, I'm still not sold on it.

The main complaints I've read about are:
1) No sector inventory (which will supposedly be added in a patch)
2) No IMP or "create-a-merc"
3) Militia seem to be downright stupid. Training them is time consuming and even when you give them good weapons, they still suck.
4) Can't repair armor.
5) The mercs you hire at the start are with you throughout the rest of the game. No more "hire this guy for a week".

Potential is there, but I'll wait until it gets patched up a bit before throwing in the cash.

What about that previous JA-style game that Matrix sells? I didn't hear much about it, but looks closer to the original by description.

It's not worth the shipping costs.

Yeah, I've heard it's complete shit. Another epic failure to invigorate the JA franchise.

At least this newest one shows a bit of promise...
