My bad for not explaining that.

The BlackIce modders are still working on a "final" version compatible with MTG ver. 1.6.2.

They do however have a work in progress test version on.

I've been playing it for a week or two now.

The test version is called:

Blackice HOI4 Test

I believe that the url for this test mod is:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... +HOI4+Test

You should be able to find it in the Steam Workshop

Also (although I don't recall if I did anything regarding this) the screen also says:

REQUIRED ITEMS
This item requires all of the following other items
BlackICE Event-GFX

----------
I think that I had that previously downloaded.

And, as information, the creator of this test mod is "maverick".
There are a ton of 'knock off' Black Ice mods created by people who have nothing at all to do with the Black Ice mod team.

Soooo, give that a try if you want.

I presume that once they have finished their MTG update, they will eliminate the Test Version mod and load that software into the 2 normal mods that you need for Black Ice (if I am not mistaken, the two official BICE mods are "BlackICE Event-GFX" and "BlackICE Historical Immersion Mod" (but those two version currently show as broken since they have not been updated to MTG 1.6.2 yet).

But...WARNING
There is alot more management involved in Black Ice.
They have alot more equipment that you may/will need (for example---you don't just have "Infantry Equipment" (aka guns)..you have the standard rifles, but then by research you can also add SME (light infantry who use submachine guns) to your division templates, you can add "Sniper" rifles; you can add anti-tank guns (rifles, not AT cannons, which is something different).

The BlackIce mod is also more intended for a historical accuracy flavor----so if you try do do ahistorical things, you may sometimes find that things don't work.

PS There is a Black Ice channel on DISCORD.

The join link for it is:

Let me know if that does not work for you.

I saw an announcement on the Black Ice (BICE) Discord that they have released the new and improved official version ( Man the Guns compatible) of their mods.

As information, the two official mods needed to play the Black Ice version are:
BlackICE Event - GFX
BlackICE Historical Immersion Mod

I let Steam update it and am about to go in and start a new game.

PS While there are numerous other "Black Ice" mods listed in the Steam Workshop only the two above are from the BICE team and only these two are supported by them (meaning if you run into bugs while playing additional Black Ice mods you are SOL with regards to getting support from the BICE team).

Steam has a summer sale going.

Among the deals includes the Hearts of Iron series ( HoI I through IV)
They are on sale at 50-75% off.

Link to the sale page:

Yesterday, the modders of BlackIce (for Hearts of Iron 4) released their 4.1.4 update, which piggybacks on Paradox's version 1.8.1 of the game.

They have not yet published a changelog for the update but a video they released in Sept. does note some of the changes:

I have downloaded the update but have not played it yet.

I did have to jigger things around a bit to get the updates.

The two mods that you need are:
Black Ice - GFX
and
Black Ice Historical Immersion Mod

both are published(uploaded) by "Maverick" (knowing that will help you sift through the many mods that are listed as "Black Ice" but which have no actual connection to the Black Ice mod team (and in many cases those "non-official" mods may lead to bugs, conflicts and crashes.)

The GFX mod was downloaded several weeks ago and worked without a hitch.
I couldn't however get the Historical Immersion mod to work though.
The fix for it was to:
1) unsubscribe both mods in Steam
2) open up and start a game using just the Vanilla version of the game (I guess this 'clears out' things from your system)
3) subscribe again to both mods and let them download
4) Open up HoI4, select the 2 mods from the mod selection panel, and start the game

Of course any saves that you had under older versions will not be playable with this update.

I expect that they will publish the changelog soon.

In case you need it, here is a (permanent) link to the Black Ice DISCORD channel:
https://discord.gg/sdZKRA7

This is useful for reporting any errors that you may find, getting help with any questions or issues, or to discuss the Hoi4 Black Ice mod.
They also periodically schedule MP game sessions through this DISCORD.

I've picked up the game and the DOC. Would you say this mod is a must? I haven't played the game yet but I am off for 12 days over Christmas

The base game/vanilla, is very basic.

Black Ice on the other hand shoots for historical accuracy.
They offer a ton of options, variations, weapons of all sort missing in vanilla, etc.

It might be a smart to play a few rounds in vanilla to get your feet wet and then take a look at Black Ice

I only play the two Black Ice mods.

Thanks. I'll keep it in mind. Of course I've got to find the time to play those two vanilla games first. Have 12 days off over the Christmas/New Years holidays but all the wife can talk about is all the work I can do while I'm home. "sigh"

Well, if you have a laptop computer and can find a quiet place to play (library or coffee shop) then you wouldn't be "at home" ;-)

There's a new DLC coming which looks quite nice, Le Resistance and intelligence agencies. I assume it'll be a rehash of HOI3's intelligence and resistance stuff.

TBH I don't like Black Ice. It layers on a lot of extra complexity for zero benefit IMO. It still plays ahistorically, tbh with HOI4 being ahistorical is built in. Earlier games like HOI2 actually followed history better, but to appeal to a wider audience I think Paradox deliberately encouraged the complete bullshit scenarios HOI4 serves up if you turn 'historical AI focuses' off.

Though I must admit it can be sorta fun occasionally, I recall a game where I was playing the US and Mexico declared war on me in 1938. The US has no army in 1938...
