Danger Close: The Battle for Long Tan

#1 Post by wulfir » Sat Jan 04, 2020 3:41 pm

Fairly new Australian movie about a lopsided clash between Australian army units and VC/PAVN in a rubber plantation near Long Tan, South Vietnam.

Tells the story in a believable fashion, no supermen heroics, includes field friction by officer rank disagreement, loss of comms between sub-units etc. The mission is NOT a highly important special forces type small group behind enemy lines thing, but starts out as a rather routine (infantry) task in company strength.

It does not appear to have a (big) Hollywood budget, but at the same time it is not a so called 'one helicopter Vietnam movie' either.

Ragnar Lodbroke leads the Australians, New Zeelanders run the artillery...

Includes the use of the song 'I was only 19' by Redgum.

Three hard hitting SLRs, out of five.
