Its rated 3.1/10 on IMDb, seems like no-one is interested in a woke Batman. What a surprise.

PJW apparently likes the Joker though.

Maybe I'll go see it. ;)

My daughter saw Joker yesterday and she recommended it to me.

The Arrowverse shows have been getting more and more woke the longer they have run, adding in more alphabet characters each season.

Now I don't have a problem with that per se, especially when they are staying true to the source material (John Constantine for example, who is bisexual in the comics), but when they are changing the sexuality of existing comic book characters, or inventing new gay characters for no other reason than to tick a box on the diversity quota it does piss me off.

The worse example I can think of is in Arrow, where it is revealed in a flashforward scene that Oliver Queen's son is gay. So fucking what? Does it play any part in the plot of the show? No. Does it play any part of his character development? No. It is just like they went "well we better have another gay character just to be safe so lets make Ollie's son a poof".

Now contrast that to Larry Trainor/Negative Man in Doom Patrol another DC show. Larry (whose character was straight in the comics) is a 1950's US Air Force test pilot, an all-round American Hero and a husband with two young sons. He is also a closet homosexual having a secret affair with his flight engineer.

While piloting a test plane to the outer edges of the atmosphere he is possessed by a being made of negative energy and crashes back to earth. He is left radioactive and with 100 degree burns and has to spend the rest of his life (which is long, because the Negative Man inside him prevents him from aging) covered in special bandages.

The experience lives him bitter and twisted and causes him to drive away his gay lover. He spends years tormenting himself over it and blaming it all on the Negative Man, but as the show progesses it is revealed that it is really Larry who is to blame for his own self-loathing and guilt. Because of his sexual leanings he had considered himself a monster long before he actually became one.

With the aid of the Negative Man he slowly starts to come to terms with himself and eventually has a reunion with his gay lover, who is now an old man and dying. Larry who has spent 5 decades agonizing over their relationship finds out that his lover who though still remembers him fondly had moved on, met someone else and lived a rich and fulfilling life and with his dying breath urges Larry to do the same. It's a touching scene and very well done and I am not ashamed to say I shed a manly tear lads.

The point I am making is that when done well, these characters can be intersting and immersive to follow and I don't see why they don't try and do this more often rather than just throw another cardboard cutout poofer character into the mix just to show they are woke.

Doom Patrol also features Danny the Street, a living and sentient piece of urban geography who can teleport and identifies as gender-queer. Fucking top that Arrowverse.

Never even heard of "Doom Patrol" before.
Looks like I haven't missed anything worthwhile.
