The Boys

#1 Post by Mac » Sat Jun 15, 2019 5:21 pm

72 issue comic book set in a world where superheroes are real and protect the world from all manner of threats with their mighty powers.

Except that is a crock of shit. Instead of dedicating their lives to furthering the common good, The Boys‘ superheroes lead secret lives of total depravity. Murder, bigotry, hard drugs, ethically questionable sex—it’s all part of pretending to save the world.

And while they kill/hate/snort/bone their way through life, these so-called heroes also present a massive threat to national and global safety.

Enter The Boys, a CIA backed black-op unit who's job it is to monitor, police and when needed liquidate wayward supes. Led by Billy Butcher, an ex Royal Marine from East London who has a personel vendetta against supes after his wife was raped by one (later to die when a super fetus burst from her stomach), they set out to take down some of the most powerful superheroes in the world.

Dark, violent, gory and funny it's available to read for free here....

Comes out as a tv adaption on Amazon next month starring Karl Urban.

I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by
What a waste...

Yeah he is not a fan, prefering characters like The Punisher and John Constantine. Most of the superheroes in The Boys are parodies of Marvel and D.C characters.

There are three miniseries that run between the events of the main story...

"Herogasm" that takes place after the "We Gotta Go Now" arc (#23-30)

"Highland Laddie" that takes place after "Believe" (#44-47)

"Butcher, Baker, Candlestickmaker" that comes after "The Big Ride" (#56-59)

Love Sausage from Glorious Five Year Plan was pretty funny.

I would think some Gopnik inspired characters would be excellent Soviet Superheroes?

303, calibre of a Lee-Enfield rifle.

Also name of a comic where a Soviet/Russian special forces officer goes to America to snipe the president...
