I've seen two episodes so far. Excellent production values, good new twists on an old story, and deeper character development than the original series (and abysmal late 1990s movie) attempted. Excellent models and effects. Writers are a bit confused about rules of thermodynamics, especially radiative cooling, but still excellent overall.

If you're a purist that thinks the "camp" of Jonathan Harris needs to be faithfully followed you will not like it. If you want the characters motives spoon fed to you from the outset you won't like it. But if you're game for a new take on an old story and generally really like SF this series is probably for you.

Four headbangs out of four for production, effects, and action moments (when these occur).

I gave up 20 minutes in. I'll give it another shot based on your review.

Yes, I have to agree it's not Feynman's undergraduate physics class at Berkley but the sets are fantastic. At one point the robot evaporates 10,000 cubic meters of water in an enclosed space and manages not to turn the crew into parboiled lobsters. I'm not sure they understand the G-forces when you crash into a mountain at 300-400 mph either.

Also, Dr Smith is not an annoying, pedantic queer in this version...well, he might be but he doesn't last long. 8-)

The dune buggy thing is awesome.

"Some Assembly Required"

I'm definitely on plastic scale model kits of the new Jupiter 2 and all-terrain-thingie if those are ever released.

The CGI landscapes are quite fantastic as well. Amazing how much talent there is in Hollywood and the amount of money that must be spent on each episode. The bar has been set for future sci fi series in terms of production values.

By comparison, Dr Who seems almost deliberately crappy...perhaps it is.

I've attempted watching a few iterations of Dr Who over the years. Never took; always shut it off after just a few minutes. Came across as far too much cheeze mixed with low budget to me. :?

Ah, I'll have to check this out.

The wife and I FINALLY availed ourselves of a boxed-set of Game of Thrones DVDs and we are part way into Season 2, so that is on the front entertainment burner for now.
