Swords, magic powers and acid trips in Celtic Britain, AD 43. A Roman general attempts conquest. Wars occur. prophecies are made. A young girl is the future of the resistence.

On the whole decent, despite the fact that all the stuff about druids is so muchly stuff and nonsense.

I watched about the first 10 or 15 minutes.

Looked like a bunch of ahistorical nonsense in a cast full of women.

Began to wonder if I was watching The View at a LARPing event, or a fictional series they wrote.

Will powering through some more pay off? Or will the history of Britain be forever gynocentric?

My general approach is to watch an entire first season to see if the show improves as the actors find their grooves. After all, consider that Game of Thrones was pretty weak for the first six episodes, being largely a venue for showing an adventure story squeezed in between scenes of people fucking.

Britannia gets better. Cait (Eleanor Cox) and Divis "The Outcast" (Nikolaj Kaas) develop a good "On The Road with Arya and the Hound" vibe that has provided some great moments. There's also a bit with a couple of Roman deserters that is good, and there seem to be no immune characters.

I'd call the First Season a solid B. It starts out as a "C" but has some "A" moments as the season develops. It could turn into a great second season.

As far as history goes, the Roman devices and the general costume seems appropriate. All of the inferences about Druidic Mysticism and practices are wholly made up. As far as I can recall, no one really knows effay about the Celtic Druids of the pre-Roman and early Roman occupation of Britain. There are some Roman writings about it, but they strike me as little more than adventure stories written by third party authors who heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who knew a guy who had a brother in the 16th Legion or something.

Possible Spoiler:

I wonder if Cait is Boudica.

My rule is 3 episodes maximum.

I've not reached that limit with this one, so I won't shit-can it yet. The first parts of episode 1 just didn't grab me, and I've been wary of British shows and their much too obvious virtue signalling lately (wasn't this a BBC endeavor?)

No virtue signaling in Britannia that I can detect.

Good to know. I'll continue a watch sometime.

Netflix has been going full retard on that in the past month or two. Probably not gonna re-sub for awhile.

I just finished watching the last episode of season 1.

It was enjoyable to watch but I certainly didn’t get the impression that their was a “historical” or “military” advisor on the set.

I thought the Roman attire seemed period-accurate and the Celtic armor as well. More or less anyhow. No one knows effay about Druids so the whole ritual side is anyone's guess.
