HBO are bringing out a documentary about the legendary wrestler...

A big man with a big heart who spent his life in pain and discomfort and had to endure people treating him like a freak show.

There is an excellent comic book that follows his life from a school boy in France until his tragic death that you can find here...

A really touching story and well worth a read if you have the time.

Interesting chap to say the least. Apparently he took up residence in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellerbe,_North_Carolina at some point prior to his death.

When I was a child my father used to watch rasslin, so we watched along with him, and I remember seeing Andre the Giant in some of his matches.

He was a remarkable man.

He spent the last few years of his life there living on a ranch. By this time his body was collasping under his own weight, as the result of knee surgery and back problems he was forced to hobble around on crutches. He actually died of a heart attack in France after returning there for his fathers funeral, according to his wishes his ashes were flown back to the States and scattered across the ranch.
