I can't find a thread about it using search so here's my review.

This is an interesting psychological drama starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher Jr. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg and produced of course by JJ Abrams. There are three other characters. A voice (Winstead's boyfriend) heard briefly on the phone, a voice (uncredited actor) heard briefly on a car radio, and a brief appearance of a woman (bit part, credited) who pleas to be allowed into Goodman's bunker.

The plot is that the three mains are holed up in an elaborate survival shelter on Goodman's and Gallagher's claim that there has been a major war or cataclysm. Goodman posits that it was a nuclear war and claims that they have to stay in the shelter for two years.

The plot focuses on the changing relationships ... suspicion ---> accommodation ---> suspicion between Goodman and the others as they try to figure out whether he's full of shit, truthful, holding them prisoner, or preventing them from committing suicide by attempting to leave the shelter.

The finale is interesting with an unexpected twist.

Definitely worth watching. I viewed it for free last weekend via Amazon Prime streaming.

As an aside, Abrams also made "Super 8" which *might* also be an entry in the Cloverfield storyverse. Super 8 was very, very good.

I enjoyed 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Goodman was wonderful, as always.

I had originally intended to see it at the theater, but was off to doing other things and forgot.

Recalled some people criticizing the ending. But I enjoyed it, and only had one very minor complaint regarding the liquor in the car (should've been some homemade shine, not some 80 proof shelf liquor, for flammability). Very minor, since similar realism nitpicks can be made about most movies.

Now here is some interesting shit. "ARG" = "alternate reality game." A kind of viral marketing for clever movies or whatever. Real world events are woven into fake blogs, fake sims, etc. In this case, there is a deep ARG theory for John Goodman's character's motivations, involving his actual real daughter, who may also be an AI.

Trippy.
