Mmmm...

Sorry, but perhaps this a case of a wrong topic for this forum. There is another forum for gaming already.

Ordung muss sein.

Decrees From the Saddle
Medieval Lords: Soldier Kings of Europe
TITLE:
Medieval Lords : Soldier Kings of Europe
SYSTEM:
IBM
B OF PLAYERS: One to ten
PRICE:
$59.95
DESIGNER:
Martin Campion
PUBLISHER:
Strategic Simulations, Inc.
Sunnyvale, CA
by Chuck Moss

Some rulers in the Middle Ages were known as "The Great"
or "The Conqueror." Others are remembered as "The Fat,"
"The Unready" or "The Foolish." Players get their chance
to find out which designation would best fit their leadership styles
in Strategic Simulations, Inc.'s new strategy game, Medieval Lords.

Billed as a historical simulation and written and designed by
Kansas history professor Martin Campion as a classroom instruc-
tional aid, Medieval Lords allows up to ten human and six com-
puter players to chart the destiny of Europe.

Medieval Lords permits a player to counsel the liege lords of a medieval European
state, in one of six scenarios, and manage the kingdom until
1530. The scenarios start at 100-year intervals and allow the
player to inject himself into a wide variety of historical situations.
Game length varies from 10 turns all the way up to a campaign
game from 1028 to 1530. Solitaire suitability is high, with three
levels of difficulty
That is the opening of a CGW #85 review of 'Medieval Lords' a game specifically
designed to teach. I agree it's in a computer mag but it could be in a history class discussion, discussing how Germany could
make the peaceful transition.

We got off on the program itself, hopefully we'll get into the how's. Maybe you've some
inputs on how Germany could make the transition.

Since it's here and your well versed on European History, how would you guide Germany to 'Prosperity through Peace Alone'?

Yes I agree. The term "AI" is nonsensical. Looking forward to designing my own Programmed Opponents within the next year or so :D
Great, so now your here I'll pose the same question to you as I did to Nero, how would you lead Germany to 'Prosperity through Peace alone'?

Forget the program, just you, how would you do it? :)

Well, that depends on assuming we are talking about a general hypothetical alternate history scenario: (a) what point in the post WWI era we are talking about and (b) what power the "player" has in this hypothetical.

Assuming we are talking about the game, well, one would need to know how the game works which I don't.

Long story short: You can grab all of Czechoslovakia, Memel, Slovenia, then swing Democratic and be among the Allies before the Reds come for you. Just leave Poland alone.

Or rather, since they didn´t attack under those circumstances when I looked into this, when the US feels like standing up against tyranny, which they will.

;)

So it's broken.

When you say "all of Czechoslovakia" do you literally mean ALL? If it is only Sudetenland then being able to remain at peace with the Western powers makes sense of course, the Nazis managed to pull that off for around a year before their additional encroachments into Poland, etc., actually lead to war with the French and Brits . . . But if the Germans can literally forcefully conquest ALL of Czechoslovakia in one go, as well as the other regions you named, and STILL be able to become friends with the Western powers then . . . well that is just stupid; stupid game design I mean. Sounds like the same old Paradox silliness.

Yes you can grab ALL of Czechoslovakia. But not in one go, it is two different events as in 1938/39 - the Munich Agreement recovering the Sudetenland and then the occupation of Prague and the rest of the Czech majority areas in early ´39.

I heard family tell that this was where they knew war was coming.

In HOI4 you can indeed get away with this, just not Poland, though I might have gotten the timing on getting the Konrad Adenauer minister triggering the transition to democratic rule just right.

HOI4´s a sandbox, so there has to be some way for this, there´s any number of mods aiming at "historical realism" and indeed the already mentioned "historical AI focus" box in vanilla HOI4.
