How did it happen?

Did Cuba win like implied in the videos, sort of, but do you execute the Cuban COC after winning the war.

When has a Communist/socialist dictatorship ever needed a valid reason to execute someone?

I barely know anything about Angola; except that, in the 1990s it was a place for a graduate student in anthropology to avoid! Probably still so.

 So true:
Quote:
By 1980, Ochoa was widely considered a great internationalist, and was awarded the title "Hero of the Revolution" by Fidel Castro in 1984.
Arrest and execution[edit]

Five years later, Ochoa was chosen by Defense Minister Raul Castro to become the head of Cuba's Western Army. Since this branch of the military protects Cuba's capital city, Havana, and its top leaders and installations, the position would have made him the third most powerful military figure on the island, after Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and General Raul Castro. What was expected to be a routine background check prior to the announcement of his appointment began to unravel, however, when some close associates accused the revolutionary hero of corruption which included, but was not limited to, the sale of diamonds and ivory from Angola and the misappropriation of weapons in Nicaragua. As the investigation continued, links were found to other military and Ministry of the Interior officials who were engaged in even more serious crimes: taking pay-offs from South American drug-traffickers in exchange for letting them use Cuban territorial waters for drug drops and pick-ups. General Raul Castro, who was very close to Ochoa personally, later said he pleaded with Ochoa on a number of occasions to come clean, reveal everything, so they could move forward. When Ochoa refused to cooperate, on June 12, the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces announced his arrest and investigation for serious acts of corruption, dishonest use of economic resources, and abetting drug trafficking.
Ochoa was put behind bars for a month in west Havana, in the military base named Reloj Club Boinas Rojas. During this time his closest friends and associates continued their attempts to persuade him to cooperate in hopes of ameliorating his sentence. During this same time Patricio and Tony de la Guardia and others were apprehended and charged as well. Ochoa and the others finally went before a Military Honour Court. Their trial, which provided ample evidence of the crimes that were committed, including dates, places, amounts of money and drugs involved, along with the lesser crimes of smuggling diamonds and ivory for sale, was viewed on Cuban television. During the trial none of the defendants claimed that they had not carried out these acts; only that there were "mitigating circumstances"[this quote needs a citation]. At one point Ochoa mused over what had brought him to this point, saying that initially he was trying to help secure weapons and other materials needed for his troops, and then one thing led to another. The Military Court found him guilty of all charges, including the capital offense of treason. Prosecutors had presented evidence that at least one pilot involved in the transfer of drugs had been contracted by the CIA, and argued that if the United States government instead of the Cuban government had discovered and revealed the involvement of high level Cuban military personnel in drug trafficking, that would have provided an excuse for invading Cuba (less than a year later, the US invaded Panama using Noriega's alleged involvement in drug trafficking as the justification). Alternatively, they surmised, if Cuba had gone ahead and appointed General Ochoa as head of the Western Army, the US would have been in a good position to blackmail and control one of the people most responsible for the country's security.
Four of the defendants, including Ochoa and Tony de la Guardia, were given death sentences for the crime of treason. The ruling regime claimed that not only had they betrayed the high level of trust in them by the government and people of Cuba, the Court declared, but had placed the entire country in jeopardy by their actions. A related trial, receiving far less attention, saw the sentencing of long-time Fidel Castro confidant and Interior Minister Jose Abrantes to 20 years in prison.[3]

And From the Miami Herald:
Quote:
Arnaldo Ochoa — a problem for Castro brothers 25 years ago
By Juan O. Tamayo

JUNE 22, 2014 7:08 PM

Fidel Castro was so afraid of a revolt in Cuba’s most elite paramilitary unit that he ordered his motorcade to avoid driving past its base, his top bodyguard at the time says. Raúl Castro was so depressed that he was going on drunken benders and soiling his pants.

Cuba’s top military hero, Gen. Arnaldo Ochoa, had been executed by firing squad for drug smuggling. And a longtime member of Fidel’s innermost circle, Interior Minister José Abrantes, was in jail awaiting trial for failing to stop the trafficking.

That summer 25 years ago posed one of the toughest challenges ever for the Castro brothers — to show that their top deputies had trafficked drugs without their consent, and to avert a backlash from other soldiers who believed the Castros were lying.

“That was the drop that overflowed my glass,” said Juan Reinaldo Sánchez, 65, who served 17 years on Fidel’s personal security detail and now lives in Miami. “That he would send to the firing squad a man who was a true hero.”

Maybe it was drugs, or maybe it was the defeat of the Cuban/MPLA forces in Angola.
Even in our open society it's hard to know what's what.

Whaaaaaat?!

Commie Cuban leadership executes people out of paranoia?

No way! Not when such well known political thinkers as Sean Penn and Oliver Stone say communist Cuba has been a beacon of humanitarian and economic success!

Plus - Cuba says it has the best doctors in the world. I mean.. Nero takes them at their own reports, so why shouldn't everyone?

I don't know about Cuban medics, but Teófilo Stevenson was pretty good during his time.

That's what you get for advocating for freedoms and liberty. Rich elites who clamor for the kind of society where central committee robs them from any freedoms and tells them what sort of propaganda to make or else they will disappear to gulags.

They keep thinking they'd get away with it because they feel that the patriotic and freedom loving crowd and the need to produce profit are limiting their ability to wield their media as a tool of re-education. They're so resentful at having to be so subtle with their communist manifesto when they could paint with stark red colors if only they lived in a communist totalitarianism.

Also, no public crucifixion for advocating for a totalitarian tyranny which killed more than 50 million of it's own people. I don't get it, we treat Nazis as we should but communism traitors are like this blind spot.

If you think you're going to be a member in good standing with the Party or even better, in the higher echelons of the Party, why not.

The rest of the country can starve to death but you'll be alright, and you'll get the pleasure of seeing wrongthinkers suffer. And maybe even die, if you're lucky!

One reason I thought he'd offed the General was Castro had managed the 'Battle of Cuito Cuanavale' himself via phone

(See Battle of Cuito Cuanavale video 2:00) and lost.

In retrospect it seems weak.

There's always the unannounced underlying desire to see capitalist heads on the block.

Wanting to murder capitalists isn't racist. So it's acceptable but still not a good idea to talk about in public until the revolution has succeeded.
