Human population, the real issue; both an opportunity and a risk.

The devil in details, but the video indicates that humans migrated from Africa through Sinai. That it is true, but that Eemian period incursion stopped short in Palestine. The current view is that humans walked out of Africa some 75000 thousands years ago through Southern Arabia. And another thing the video indicates is that humans arrived to Europe 80000 years ago. Which is not supported with any facts.

But what what is true, is that population growth during last 2000 years is faster than exponential; the time it takes the population to double is shortening. So the question is what to call a function that grows faster than exponential; a cluster fuck. ;)

But there is a challenge for you waiting. ;)

And will post something about the last interglacial, the Eemian period. But not in this thread.

Take care.

Denier, denier, pants on fire!

It isn't about fair, its about what is right for the acolytes of the Church of Goreacle

Tyson's rhetoric is incoherent. He argues for "not cherry-picking," and then invokes the magnitude of a single storm as a "shot across the bow?"

Climate has always changed on Earth, and has always included short- intermediate- and long-cycles. Seasonal patterns anywhere on Earth 500 years ago were not identical to those 100 years ago in those same locales. Seasonal patterns today may well be significantly different from 100 years ago, and they certainly are different from innumerable points throughout history and pre-history. Mile-thick glaciers covered much of the northern hemisphere up until ~12,000 years before the present.

With this broad view of "climate" in mind, I can see no valid description for invoking the magnitude of all the storms in the past decade as a "shot across the bow" other than "cherry picking."

I have a hard time not suspecting you are a charlatan Dr. Tyson.

I don't see a lot of cherry picking among climate scientists. Now, if you want to say that the policy advocates cherry pick the climate science research, I agree.

I defend the science on the grounds that the scientists are knowledgeable, skillful experts who have the best handle on the facts and the theory that works with the facts. The facts are that the world is heating up, CO2 forcing is driving it, and carbon emissions are driving CO2 forcing.

The controversy seems to be (leaving aside the denialists who think CO2 forcing cannot happen) what the effects will be, and what policies should follow from knowledge of the effects.

I reject the idea that carbon cap and trade is necessarily a reasonable solution. Moreover any nonbinding agreement like the Paris Accord is useless. You want to cut CO2 emissions you need to put China and India in the hot seat and you need to get them to downsize their populations. No one talks about that. The only BINDING clause in the Paris Accords was a mandatory handout of about $20Bn per year from the US to other nations. That was a stupid idea.

Actually, the best arguments for the US to change domestic energy policy are all related to local effects. Massive upscale of solar will provide a much more consistent (market price) energy source, and there will be no harmful emissions. That means a million or so fewer lung disease cases per annum in the USA. Less smog. Less SO2 acid rain. Fewer massive highly toxic and somewhat radioactive fly ash sludge ponds. Etc.

And if we upscale that in a domestic US Apollo Program scale revamp of our energy infrastructure, and we tie that to domestic sourcing of the products, we'll beat the shit out of everyone else in re tach advancement and economy of scale pricing.

Then we can stop exporting coal to China and other nations and watch the poor shits wiggle when they have to buy cheap US solar tech in order for them to meet their desired goal of "saving the planet." ;)

Not ONE MOTHERFUCKER with the money has written a sea-level rise prospectus addendum in the whole century!

Warming is a GOOD THING!

This one is lengthy!

ADDIT: I especially recommend skipping in to 6:40 to see a comparison of historical photographs of a promontory on La Jolla from 1870 to the present to see how bad sea level rise has been so far! ENJOY!

Happer does not know much at all, calls warming caused by doubling the CO2 as climate sensitivity. And this Moulinex is a pathological idiot.

More fun with the eggheads.
