The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, citing survey results released on Monday, blames widespread ignorance for the relatively positive views millennials have toward socialism and communism.

Of the 2,300 Americans polled by YouGov, 80% of baby boomers and 91% of the elderly agree with the statement that “communism was and still is a problem” in the world today. Millennials? Only 55%.

‘An emerging generation of Americans has little understanding of the collectivist system and its dark history.’
Marion Smith, Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation
Furthermore, almost half of Americans between the ages of 16 and 20 said they would vote for a socialist, while 21% would go so far as to back a communist.

Capitalism, on the other hand, is viewed favorably by 64% of those over the age of 65, compared with only 42% of millennials.

In fact, more than half of millennials say the economic system works against them, while four out of 10 call for a “complete change” to ensure that the highest earners pay their fair share.

There’s a lack of historical perspective, according to the foundation, that the survey showed among a big chunk of the younger generation. For instance, a third of millennials say they believe more people were killed under George W. Bush than Joseph Stalin.

As far as familiarity with historical figures, this chart sums it up:

--Graph--

“One of the concerns [the foundation] has had since its establishment is that an emerging generation of Americans has little understanding of the collectivist system and its dark history,” said Marion Smith, executive director of the organization. “Unfortunately, this report, which we intend to release on an annual basis, confirms this worrisome impression.”
I agree, it's obvious on Civfanatics.

I would expect to see the concern over the alleged seriousness of a 'Communist threat' decrease with every generation, esp since the Cold War ended, China is westernized, and South America has largely adopted socialist economies.

Communism isn't dead, but it just isn't the threat it was 100, 50, or even 25 years ago.

The modern threat is Radical Islam and it's tendency to destroy Western civ.

The modern threat are the elites in West who want Radical Islam to take over Western civ.

Leningrad Cowboys are no Millennials, the band started 1986, when there was Soviet Union and Leningrad. ;)

Before 1986 the band was Sleepy Sleepers, with hits like Anarkiaa Karjalassa.

It seems that in US and in West Europe Marxism has become "the thing" in all the faculties except law, business and engineering.

The KGB were really doing a fantastic job even if their economy and society were slowly collapsing in the background. They were planting seeds that are only still starting to bloom.

Weren't you the one who was always big on how you yourself was being recruited For The Cause?

If you ever accidentally happened by a history book or someone who isn't you who lived back then, check the following terminology:

Kekkosen aika (Kekkonen's era)
Kotiryssä ('home rooskie', every Finnish politician had to have a personal resident Russian as a personal contact)
Punainen Valpo (Red State Police of Finland, hunted down patriots as what amounts to CIA/FBI became infiltrated and overrun by communists)
Suomettuminen (Finlandization, the term for a country where news, foreign policy entirely and large parts of internal policy etc. are controlled by a foreign power while pretending it not to be so)

Also refer to programs such as "Illegals program" by KGB, their infiltration to the Black Rights Movement, Hippie Movement, various peace organizations, religious groups etc. without forgetting universities and education.

Note that not everyone was a KGB agent - overwhelming majority were 'assets', people who were sympathetic with The Cause who could be managed by an operator in order to effect a massive organization which can focus on given goals with the operators organizing their assets to best work towards the given goals of any current strategy.

Also check out organizations such as Komintern with it's various rebranded names etc. which organized the activities of communist movements across the world so that The Cause was being fought for in organized and concerted fashion.

None of this rings a bell just because you want to issue a personal level insult ad hominem?

Go fuck yourself nero.
