You point references to big government in the Spiegel article. I reread the article and couldn't find anything particular.

You must be getting on a bit, nero. Eyesight going. It was pretty much directly lifted!

It isn't hard to predict that this won't happen. The hatred of big government has reached a level in the United States that threatens the country's very existence.

There are the word "big big government", I can not read it as puffing "big government".

And there is an another instance:

Quote:
But Republican governors in states with routes where high-speed rail would make sense simply refused to accept the government funds. Once again, their refusal reflected the desire to thwart a plan by "socialist" Obama, and the determination not to be accused by their supporters of having accepted money from the agents of "big government."

How is this puffing "big government"? :?

OTOH I didn't realize that you are such a literalist. :o

Silly me.

That whole bit is about various government interventions... Public spending on railways in your own quote.

Is the railways system a government intervention in UK? Historically, from the start.

Big projects somehow need to be government projects, like the Manhattan Project, Interstate Highway System, Apollo Program, NHS. To name few.

But those GOP governors that refuse federal money to medicaid expansion, stimulus money, railways and other things is not to oppose big government, but to oppose current Obama administration. During Bush time they refused nothing.

 Sarah Palin did that, But she is an idiot of colossal magnitude.

So it goes.

Selective vision and interpretation.

How can someone consider the sentence, "The hatred of big gov't has reached a level in the US that threatens it's own existence" as anything BUT extolling the virtues of Big Brother Gov't?

Nero has the blinders set to "Full".

The quote tells that one party has got crazy and threatens to shut down government for this or that reason.

Well, is that so different from parliamentary democracies that dissolve when major factions pull out of ruling coalitions?

No.

When I go to work it's via a railway line built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, for a private company - GWR, founded in 1838. Founded during a public meeting no less. Nationalised in 1914.

Apparently it used to be nicknamed Gods Wonderful Railway, the present shower who run it have rather less flattering nicknames.

On the other hand, UKgov now couldn't organise a pissup in a brewery. They are trying to build a huge railway line from up north to London, and making a right hash of that, not to mention the fact that it's been dragging on for literally years and they've not laid a single bit of rail yet.

Two words you seem to be conflating Nero: "start" and "expansion."

The USPS isn't technically even a part of the US Federal government anymore.

In parliamentary democracies such situation results a new election unless a new coalition can not be found.

How about the words development, evolution, reform?
