... The Federal government ... has subsidized ...

Saying the "Federales" subsidize something is mis-leading. It makes it sound as though an infinite source of money exists somewhere up in the sky to take care of us. Such words enhance the "cargo culture". We should use words like "the hardworking, barely able to make ends meet, taxpayers subsidize" ... that sounds more accurate.

This is going to wind up as an underground urinal for winos. California cities are set up based on the automobile. You can take the train but you'll have to rent a car when you get there. Or a cab. No matter where you end up, nothing will be in walking distance.

It'd be better and cheaper to build high speed highways and charge people to get on them.

UG rail in CA is lunacy. Plus it's going to cost twice as much as they predict.

I hope you're right that it will ONLY be twice as much as the budget. Because they don't have enough money yet they are building a cheaper segment between two shithole towns that nobody lives in and nobody wants to go to.

No private entity would EVER have undertaken the project because it cannot possibly hope to pay for itself. The commitee apointed to oversee the project paid for a study which demosntrated it was economically impossible and then they promptly ignored their own fucking study.

This is what happens when you put Greentards in charge of things.

The greater los Angeles area is bigger than Bavaria. It's impossible to get around without a car. When I was in Munich and Paris I could get anywhere I wanted to go by walking or hopping a street car. You cant do that in the United States.

A hundred years ago it was possible int the US. Then car killed the streetcar.

So it goes.

PS. The current US is built on the idea of cheap oil. And you got traffic jams.

And you have a frozen wasteland inhabited by socialist parasites, that could disappear in a nuclear blast and no one would notice, or care.

The U.S. was built on public ownership of land. The government owns all the land in Yurope.

A hundred years ago, you'd get around by horse if you didn't have a car. Practically everyone had one or the other to get around.

Only an extremely small portion of the population live within walking distance of everything they need. It was the same a century ago. At the beginning of the 20th century, the massive build-up of horse shit in the streets was a regular problem. Now it's pseudo-religious zealots claiming horse farts are heating up the planet.

Streetcars in North America

Electric streetcars were once the chief mode of public transit in scores of North American cities. The term streetcar (or sometimes trolley) is the name used by the residents of North America to describe such systems, rather than the European term tram or tramway. Most of the original municipal streetcar systems were dismantled in the mid-20th century. Today, only Toronto and New Orleans still operate streetcar networks that are essentially unchanged in their layout and mode of operation.
