“I am getting really worried, because if 222 Democrats voted for this unconstitutional, very-unpopular maneuver, doesn’t that mean that all 222 will also vote for the bill itself? Why vote for this if you’re not going to vote for that?”

Voting for this does not hold them accountable. They can go back to their district and proudly proclaim I never voted for the HC bill. I just voted for the rule.

And they actually think were all stupid and cant figure out the difference.

I dont think they will need to use it (Slaughter Rule) as the YES votes keep going up.

As of right now, they are about 5 or 6 votes short. I am literally feeling nauseous at the prospect of this thing passing.

This is literally the end of democracy in America.

Now they are talking about using the same technique on immigration and cap and trade.

This is a coup.

The House and senate passed 2 different versions of the Healthcare reform legislation. Because the senate is more "centrist" and because of "cloture" (a rule requiring 60 votes out of 100 to cut off debate), the Senate version is more "centrist" (not really..it is still socialism and an abridge to liberty) and is objectionable to many Leftists in the House.

Normally, this would be remedied in "conference committee" between the two houses where a compromise would be struck. Fortuitously, however, Ted Kennedy died and a Republican opposed to reform won his seat in an epic overturn of 40 years of Dem control of that seat. The senate, therefore, cannot budge. There can be no compromise.

The only solution is for the House to pass the Senate version of the bill with ZERO changes. This is like drinking draino for many house members so some retard monarchist came up with the idea of simply passing a parliamentary rule "deeming" the Senate version passed in the House without actually voting on the bill. This is to give cover for Dems in the House who are not in safe districts and who know the voters (who do not want this on average) are going to come after them with pitchforks.

The plan is then to modify the bill under a rule allowing simple 50 % majorities in the Senate which was strictly intended to allow compromise on budgetary issues alone.....not a fundamental reworking of the American system of government.

It is absolutely antidemocratic.

Not only was it not designed for a bill of this magnitude, it still REQUIRED THE ACTUAL PASSING OF THE SENATE BILL first.

So they are violating 2 long standing rules and essentially sending a bill to the President to be signed into law that was never passed by both houses.

A clear violation of the Constitution.

But we are talking about a party that looks at the Constitution not as a legal document to be defended but as something to be exploited for personal gain.

If they actually use this "Deem" trick, I think the courts will stop the whole bill. It may be a blessing in disguise.

Obama went on National TV and said he really doesn't care about procedure - in essence saying "the ends justify the means" - and he wasn't skewered by the media over it. Not even FOX seemed to grasp the significance. Instead the commentary focused on whether the president was showed the proper respect by Bret Baier.

So it seems we're screwed. The so-called bill passes and if the courts/states can't or won't stand up to the Feds then I guess this will have to be settled by another Civil War.
