He wasn't an immediate threat to the officer. The only way that is justified is if the target had been interrupted during a terror attack or perhaps had an explosive device and would represent an imminent threat to others in the community.

You have to admit it was an impressive shot, however.

I suppose if the officer is indicted, and if the video is not dismissed as evidence, then it will not be any of us who are "the judge," it will be the jurors who watch the video who serve as the JURORS who recommend their determination to the court (who are generally bound to accept that determination as final outside of extraordinary factors . . . although the issue of appeals has to be noted as a caveat to that).

So what are the actual details? The nature of the call out? What officers were told on their way to the scene? That sort of thing?

No way in hell I'm gonna watch a video of someone getting shot and killed without knowing those things. A video does not prove shit except, and only exactly what it shows (and assuming it hasn't been tampered with). Outside of a contextual background it could mean many things.

You guys worry me with how quick you are to be judge and jury and apparently executioner sometimes! :P

That's the thing about bullets... they always hit something.... sometimes even the thing you wanted to hit...

My understanding is that he was stopped by police in a car they thought was stolen... he bailed and threw a gun away as he ran..... because he did that it was open season on him..... ?

25 y/o. series of previous arrests, robbery, weapons, drugs. He had a gun on him when he got bagged.

The ppl he robbed from will miss him...

Shrug.

And the shooter knew that when the decision to fire was made?

And the shooter was 5000% sure the target was "Hambrick" when the decision to fire was made?

(not likely to be YES to either of those questions ... )

On the surface, looks questionable ROE decision to me ...

Now the correct action for the "victim" would been to stop and not move and hold hands away from body ... if there was a chance to not get shot, that would've been it ...

Looks questionable to me.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that there would be fewer cases like this if there were two patrolmen per car?

It's a very common occurrence. Convicted felon with a weapon gets pulled over. He's not looking to get in a shootout... only escape because he knows he's going down hard this time. He runs.... tries to lose the gun... because that's what will sink him deep.....

But now the police officer has seen a gun.... and they feel justified in spraying lead.......

The real outrage should be against this tactic of spraying lead whenever you've got the probable cause to do so.... just like the recent video of them spraying lead into a coffee shop and killing a bystander... just like that clown in Missouri emptying his gun at an unarmed gentle giant in a residential neighborhood...

Somebody needs to start thinking about it... the problem is 1 guy alone with a shitty 9mm handgun.... IMO they need to start re-examining tactics and weapons.

I think likely. And that would reduce costs ... only need half as many cars !!! :)

...and reducing response time and covering half the area? Given the number of law enforcement officers being killed this summer I'm not surprised that they are shooting as much as they are. Not condoning but not surprised either. I would advocate that if the solution is a second officer in the car than it be a dog.
