Exactly, and everyone else from about 25+ years ago or further ... historians do not judge people from the past by current lens. I was actually taught that point in graduate history program at KU.

I think the real cutoff date is after WW2. The twisted ideas of race superiority and blatant racism pretty much reached it's pinnacle in that war. WW2 should probably be renamed the Race War ... Anyone who's managed to hang on to it after seeing the horrors of 1945 should be viewed with disdain imo... not so much before it...

For the aggressor nations, race or similar conceptions of ethnic/national identity were indeed, central to their agenda. The "good guy" nations weren't immune to it either . . .

It seems to me he was a smart guy who was in the right place at the right time. More genius than any other really smart person? Probably not.

Like Edison said: Genius is 99% Perspiration and 1% Inspiration.

Edison was a manufacturing engineer, Einstein was a theoretician. Maybe for Einstein it was 99% inspiration and 1% perspiration :)

Well clearly for Einstein it was at least 33% racism!

So then that leaves 65% strategic procrastination 1% inspiration!

Agreed. The leap from the null result of the Michelson-Morley experiment to an insight that the speed of light must be a universal constant violated a lifetime of empirical and classical physics knowledge. And then he applies mathematics to show that mass and energy are convertible? That is Newtonian level genius for sure. That requires almost God-like abstraction.

The entire world of physics collectively exclaimed "FUCK! HE'S RIGHT!"

12% time saved by not getting haircuts
8% racism
80% mind-bending genius

That is a good point. I had forgotten about that experiment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelson ... experiment

And this is also a good reason why: the pace of science seems to have slowed down in the post 1965 world: Because of the changing academic work place (namely, lots more qualified people aspiring for those cush academic jobs) a progressive rise in the devaluation of publishing negative results
