Maine is field testing a new kind of polling starting with the primaries this month (tomorrow... 12 June). It's called Ranked Choice Voting. Each voter can vote for multiple nominees for a position, ranking them in order of preference. This form of polling COULD potentially massively undermine croneyism of the kind that favored fools like Senator Clinton.

Story below from the Portland (Maine) Press Herald

A good example of why states are the "Laboratories of democracy".

I wonder how it actually works (I read the article) are the various "rankings" given different amounts of points?

I have my doubts it is a "game changer" although it could help 3rd party candidates. Suppose you pick Libertarian #1 and Republican #2...that would presumably hurt the Republican.

Hard to believe that Trump voters would pick a Dem for a second pick

Quote:
New voting system credited for strong turnout for Maine primaries
Some voters took ranked-choice voting in stride while others were confused in the state's first rollout of a new way to vote.
Turnout appeared to be strong as Mainers statewide cast ballots for the first time using ranked-choice voting in a seven-way primary for governor among Democrats and a four-way race among Republicans.
