That is cool (and demonstrates that your air force still has enough flyable jets to pull off something like that ;-) )

Mac posted it so I was presuming that it was British. I don't know for certain which air force that was.

Nero is going to be mad with you. You can see the Finnish flags on top of the building.

Those look like F-16s but I'm not saying that's for sure what they are or who's operating them.

The Finnish flags escaped my "eagle eyes" ;-) (plus this is a thread about FInland's 100th. See what happens when I skip my morning coffee).

And to MDiehl, I think that the Finnish AF flies F-18 Hornets

Mebbe so. I just think the profile seems a bit slender for F-18s.

They're F-18s

Older Hornets.. not 'Super' Hornets.

55x F/A-18C
7x F/A-18D

It's not much, but each single one of them ups the potential cost for Russian invasion by a lot.

They're operational 24/7 through the year. There's no such thing as "Christmas downtime" in FAF. They're always ready for anything.

The Hornets are going to be replaced in the 2020's by ~60 F-35 fighters. If this doesn't happen I'll eat a hat full of pea soup.

We cannot afford to have an air force that poses an actual threat for Russia. Instead we have an air force that is designed to cause them severe attrition in combination with a large number of latest AA-systems.
The FAF leaders have stated that they have the capability to achieve a temporary local air superiority against Russian Air Forces if they need to. However, assuming high intensity warfare the Hornet force will be depleted in ~3 weeks or so of sustained operations. Anything beyond that is a bonus.
