Interesting campaign commercial from a guy running for the Minnesota legislature.

I must say I have never heard anything quite like it.

I could not find the commercial on You Tube so you will have to watch the article at the article linked below:

Minnesota State Rep Candidate: I Want To Be Your, Uh … Your … Hmmm

The Democratic candidate against Ted Cruz in Texas:

Beto O'Rorke

Police reports detail O'Rourke's '98 drunken-driving arrest

Associated Press Associated Press•September 1, 2018

HOUSTON (AP) — Police documents from a decades-old drunken-driving arrest of Democratic Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke provide a more complete picture of an incident that the congressman has long acknowledged.

The Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express-News recently obtained copies of state and local police reports pertaining to the arrest. They show O'Rourke was found intoxicated after losing control of his vehicle on Interstate 10 and hitting a truck. Nobody was hurt in the accident in Anthony, Texas, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) from El Paso. A witness told police that O'Rourke tried to drive away, but the witness stopped him until officers arrived, the documents show. The witness also said that O'Rourke had been driving at "a high rate of speed."

O'Rourke has talked about the 1998 arrest while campaigning to unseat Republican Sen. Ted Cruz. But news stories about the arrest earlier in the campaign did not include details such as the crash and the reported attempt to flee. O'Rourke did not address those details in a statement Saturday.

"I drove drunk and was arrested for a DWI in 1998. As I've publicly discussed over the last 20 years, I made a serious mistake for which there is no excuse," the statement said.

O'Rourke had just turned 26 when the arrest happened. He did a court-ordered diversion program and a drunken-driving charge was dismissed.

According to police, O'Rourke recorded a 0.136 and 0.134 on breathalyzers, above a blood-alcohol level of 0.10, Texas' legal limit for driving at the time.

Cruz has never been arrested, but was once ticketed for underage alcohol possession when he was 17 and police stopped him and found unopened beer in his car.

A spokeswoman for Cruz did not immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday.

Ocasio-Cortez Praises Venezuela For Making Everyone A Millionaire Through Hyperinflation

August 31, 2018

NEW YORK, NY—In an interview on Meet the Press Sunday, Democratic congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez scolded American leaders for not setting the minimum wage as high as Venezuela, whose hyper-inflated currency is forcing minimum wage increases all year long.

Ocasio-Cortez then pointed out that if we would just raise the minimum wage to somewhere in the millions like the socialist South American country did, everyone will be a millionaire.

“Venezula’s minimum wage is, like, millions per month, and ours isn’t even close to that,” she said. “Our minimum wage is, like, seven bucks or something. We call ourselves a developed country, but we don’t even just like print nearly as much money as Venezuela and give it out for free, because of businesses and corporations and things like that.”

She also called Venezuela’s leaders “really smart” for overloading the economy with more currency, and called on America’s leadership to do the same. “It just goes to show that socialism is better because you can inflate the currency to a lot more, and more is better than less, obviously.”

“It’s just common sense, and you know, like, human rights and stuff,” she added.

No, babylonbee is a satire site in the vein of the Onion. :)

But, it made you think, didn't it?

From Wikipedia:

Quote:
She graduated cum laude from Boston University's College of Arts and Sciences in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in economics and international relations.[15][17][18]

Some of her past comments related to economic and international subjects should certainly make some think that her “cum laude” honors and economics and international relations degrees were misplaced.

PS i knew that Website was satirical, but as Poindexter pointed out, you probably heard enough of her prior stupid comments to give you pause.

Another article with even more information regarding the (fictional) childhood and upbring of Julia Salazar:

https://hotair.com/archives/2018/09/02/ ... said-true/

Quote:
Has Anything Julia Salazar Said About Herself Been True?

JAZZ SHAWPosted at 5:01 pm on September 2, 2018

A couple of weeks ago, John Sexton looked at the relatively underreported story of Julia Salazar and the political campaign she’s running in New York. I realize that this is a state senate race, so it normally wouldn’t merit all that much attention, but the parallels between Salazar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are hard to overlook. Salazar pitches the same brand of Democratic Socialism as her New York colleague and she’s got that “ready for TV” look which makes for great advertisements. And again, much like Ocasio-Cortez, she’s got that compelling life story which speaks to diversity, struggle and the promise of America for aspiring immigrants. It’s that last bit which is problematic, as John pointed out when he talked about her “curiously shifting” background story. Many of the claims she made regarding her upbringing, her religion, her family”s economic struggles and even her place of birth have been called into question.

Now, in a new interview with New York magazine City & State, Salazar’s brother Alex and her own mother are calling her out for this fictional life she claims to have led, clearly implying that she’s bringing discredit on her family. (Free Beacon)

The brother and mother of a New York City democratic socialist candidate went on the record to dispute many of the biographical claims she has made throughout the campaign…

Contrary to Salazar’s claim that “my mom ended up raising my brother and me as a single mom, without a college degree and from a working-class background,” her brother says they lived comfortably and their father made six-figures as a pilot and continued to pay child support following their divorce.

“We were very much middle class. We had a house in Jupiter along the river, it was in a beautiful neighborhood,” he said.

Julia, in response, said since her parents separated when she was six, there were two years that she lived only with her mother before Christine Salazar graduated from college.

So the Salazar family clearly wasn’t living in a mansion in a gated community, but they also weren’t on the verge of homelessness in a broken family. Her sibling and mother paint a picture of a very middle class and relatively content life. As to her claims that she was raised by “a single mom who didn’t have a college degree,” the single mom in question denies it. She finished college later than most but had her degree by the time Julia was eight.

Salazar has also claimed that she was forced to go to work in a grocery store because the family was so poor they couldn’t make ends meet. Her mother disputes that as well, saying she “encouraged her children to work to build character and because they didn’t get an allowance, not out of necessity.” The candidate also claimed to have been born in Colombia, later becoming a naturalized citizen and had to “move back and forth between Colombia and Miami several times.” The woman who actually delivered her into this world specifically remembers giving birth to her in Florida. And while they visited family in Columbia a few times over the years, they never moved back to live there.

As to her family having to deal with “immigration issues” because of not being citizens, mom reports that every member of the family was a U.S. citizen by the time Julia was born. She never had to cope with any of those issues. And this is her own mother and brother going to the press to shoot down her stories.

Will any of this have any impact on her election prospects? Tough to say. This material isn’t getting all that much play in the local press so many of the voters in that senate district might not even know about it. And even if they do, will the local Democrats care? Julia Salazar has one of those life stories which just tugs at your heartstrings and she checks off most of the Democrats’ demographic boxes. Why let a little thing like reality spoil all the good times?

She'll make a great politician---you can't believe a word that comes out of her mouth.

You would think that a Niagra Falls of lies would be a disqualifier for office. Surely there are some attractive Hispanic women who really did worry about "La Migra" and work in grocery stores to feed the family.

Somebody needs to do a bit more vetting.

Well, maybe the vetting process at the Democratic Socialist Party is not as thorough as it is for other political parties...
