Jesus Campos, the Mandalay Bay security guard who was shot by Paddock disappears right before he is due to give an interview...

Quote:
The Mandalay Bay security guard who was shot before gunman Stephen Paddock opened fired on concertgoers across the street from the hotel disappeared Thursday night, just moments before he was set to speak to the press for the first time since the savage attack.

As of Friday morning, the whereabouts of Jesus Campos were unknown. DailyMail.com reached out for comment to David Hickey, president of the International Union, Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America that represent the guard, and were awaiting a response.

According to the latest timeline provided by police detailing the events of October 1, Paddock sprayed 200 rounds into the hallway on the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay, wounding Campos in the leg, six minutes before he unleashed his barrage of bullets on the crowd attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival.

Campos, who was unarmed, survived the shooting and was scheduled to sit down for five TV interviews Thursday night, including one on Fox News, but suddenly vanished.

ABC News reporter Stephanie Wash tweeted Thursday, quoting the president of Campos' labor union: 'We were in a room & we came out & he was gone.'

She followed up by writing that Campos' whereabouts were unknown.

The security guard was supposed to be interviewed by Fox News' Sean Hannity, but the host tweeted on Thursday: 'He cancelled.'

Campos' disappearance came just hours after MGM Resorts International, which owns the Mandalay Bay, disputed the official timeline of the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history, rejecting any suggestion that hotel staff delayed calling 911 for six minutes after Paddock opened fire.

The latest chronology raised a series of questions about whether officers were given information quickly enough to possibly have a chance to take out the gunman before he could carry out the bloodshed.

But according to resort officials, it was no more than 40 seconds between the time Campos used his walkie talkie to call for help and Paddock opening fire on the crowd from two windows in his suite.

Earlier in the investigation, police had said that Paddock shot through his door and wounded Campos after the guard distracted him from firing on the crowd out the windows.

Campos’ union president said the latest timeline does not dispute the assertion that the guard is ‘still a hero, saving his coworker, possibly stopping additional shots,’ reported Stephanie Wash.

Well that's downright suspect.

I wonder if his employer told him not to do the interview. Or.. worse?

WTF?

I read one news story somewhere that Senor Campos is not licensed in Nevada...and the article further said that anyone who works as a security guard (armed or unarmed) in Nevada must be licensed with the state. Which makes me then further wonder....is Senor Campos allowed to (legally) work in the US (is he a US citizen/or does he have a green card)?

Both the hotel AND the union would look bad if it turns out this guy is an illegal.

This was my knee-jerk instinct when I read that. Ditto.

Another Shift in Las Vegas Timeline Caps Days of Confusion

By JULIE TURKEWITZ and ADAM GOLDMANOCT. 13, 2017

The Las Vegas police again revised the timeline of the Oct. 1 shooting at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, saying on Friday that Stephen Paddock shot and wounded a security guard on his hotel floor about the same time he began to spray bullets on a country music concert below.

The gunman shot the guard, Jesus Campos, around 10:05 p.m., Sheriff Joseph Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said at a brief news conference on Friday, not at 9:59 p.m., as he had told reporters on Monday, and not after Mr. Paddock stopped firing on the crowd at 10:15, as the sheriff said on Oct. 4.

The latest account came a day after MGM Resorts, which owns Mandalay Bay, disputed the police department’s timeline, saying in a statement that the time of 9:59 had come from a hotel report “manually created after the fact” and was not accurate.

The sheriff did not say on Friday whether Mr. Paddock had already begun shooting at the crowd from the window of his 32nd-floor suite when he wounded Mr. Campos, or turned to the concert immediately after. MGM said in its statement that the gunman was firing at the concert grounds “at the same time as, or within 40 seconds after” the time Mr. Campos first reported shots over his radio.

Several other key facts remain unknown, including Mr. Paddock’s motive and why he stopped shooting at the crowd. The new timeline still leaves about 12 minutes — including 10 minutes of effectively automatic gunfire — between when Mr. Campos reported the shots and when the police arrived on the 32nd floor, at 10:17 p.m. The timelines released by the police since the shooting have raised questions about their response and whether officers had enough time to address Mr. Campos’s call and potentially stopped the massacre sooner.

Emergency radio traffic from that evening, however, details a chaotic scene in which the police were fielding reports of multiple shooters and mass casualties in the minutes after Mr. Paddock began firing on the crowd. While officers almost immediately identified a high floor of the Mandalay Bay as a source of gunfire, they believed that there were suspects on more than one floor. Hotel dispatchers also received multiple calls with conflicting information, according to a person familiar with the security response inside the hotel.

The sheriff said on Friday that he was “absolutely offended” by allegations of incompetence within the department, and said that the shifting timeline was a result of the vast scope of the investigation and not an attempt to mislead anyone about the circumstances of the attack.

“This is a very dynamic event,” he said. “A very big event. Thousands of people involved — humans involved — in documentation.”

The announcement caps almost two weeks of confusion about the chronology of the shooting, in which Mr. Paddock, a high-stakes gambler, hauled powerful weapons into the gold-paneled hotel and casino, pointed them out the window of his suite and shot at thousands of people below.

Mr. Paddock killed 58 people before killing himself.

Sheriff Lombardo also announced Friday a revised number of injured people, to 546 from fewer than 500. He added that 45 people were still in hospitals, some in critical condition, and that the number of dead could rise. “By the grace of God it doesn’t,” he said.

The back-and-forth is a sign of the complexity of the case and the amount of information investigators are sifting through as they try to unravel what happened. Sheriff Lombardo said that his team was examining thousands of pieces of evidence, patching together information from hotel cameras, private cameras, police body cameras, police dispatch and witness interviews. He said repeatedly at the news conference that information about the case would change as the investigation continued.

Officials said the F.B.I.’s Counterterrorism Division was handling the investigation because of its experience dealing with mass shootings and terrorism attacks. More than 200 F.B.I. agents and support staff have worked the case. So far, the F.B.I. has conducted hundreds of interviews and investigated 2,000 tips or leads.

The police have said that investigators found several bullets in aviation fuel tanks near the concert grounds, and on Friday Sheriff Lombardo said that his team believed Mr. Paddock had fired at them “with intent.” He noted that there was “very low probability” that gunfire could have ignited the fuel.

On the day of the shooting, Mr. Campos had been dispatched to the 32nd floor to investigate an alarm indicating that a room door was ajar, according to police officials.

Sheriff Lombardo said on Friday that while an initial written report of the night showed that Mr. Campos had been shot at 9:59 p.m., further examination revealed something different: Mr. Campos had tried to access the 32nd floor, but found a door barricaded. He ascended to another level in order to get to the 32nd floor.

He went to the door that was ajar, Sheriff Lombardo said, “mitigated the situation and subsequently received fire from the suspect.” That happened around 10:05 p.m., which is also when Mr. Paddock began to shoot at the concert.

Sheriff Lombardo said on Friday that Mr. Campos notified the hotel both by radio and cellphone shortly after he had been shot. But he did not say when Mandalay Bay notified the police department.

The sheriff, alluding to allegations of a conspiracy between his department, the F.B.I., and MGM — supposedly in an effort to establish a legal case — said, “there is no conspiracy.”

Stephanie Saul contributed reporting from New York.

And the FBI's reputation receives yet another hit. This agency is going from one of the most respected in America to that on a par with the Postal Department.

LAS VEGAS MASSACRE 22 hours ago

Las Vegas guard Jesus Campos vanished after visiting urgent-care clinic, union leader says

The Mandalay Bay security guard who disappeared last week moments before he was scheduled to break his silence in television interviews has not been heard from since he went to a walk-in health clinic, his union president said.

David Hickey of the Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA) told reporters Friday that he got a text the night before saying Jesus Campos was taken to a UMC Quick Care facility, though he did not specify where or whom the text came from.

A spokesperson at the UMC Quick Care, which has eight locations throughout the Las Vegas area, told Fox News on Monday that they had "heard nothing" about Campos visiting them.

Multiple requests from Fox News for SPFPA to comment on the matter were not returned Monday.

Hickey said he was meeting with MGM officials Thursday afternoon in the hours before Campos’ scheduled television appearances, including one with Fox News.

But when the meeting ended, Campos had fled.

"For the past four days he's been preparing ... we had a meeting with MGM officials, and after that meeting was over, we talked about the interviews, we went to a private area, and when we came out, Mr. Campos was gone," Hickey told reporters, according to Fox 5 Las Vegas.

Hickey said Campos had requested to go public and wanted to tell his story and move on from the Oct. 1 shooting investigation. Police say he was shot just before the crazed gunman killed 58 at music festival on the Las Vegas Strip – though the sequence of events is still in dispute.

Campos was last photographed in public on Oct. 10, accepting an “SPFPA Hero Award” for bravery in the line of duty, while dining with Hickey and others at a high-end Vegas steakhouse. But soon afterward, investigators said that the security guard was shot before the massacre, raising questions about whether the hotel did enough to prevent the bloodshed.

Hickey has said that before he vanished, Campus was looking forward to telling his side of the story.

"Right now I'm just concerned where my member is, and what his condition is. It's highly unusual,” Hickey said Friday. “I'm hoping everything is OK with him and I'm sure MGM or the union will let (media) know when we hear something," he said.

Fox News' Greg Norman contributed to this report.

Why did Jesus disappear?

Let's take some crazy guesses!

Was he:

A) An illegal foreigner, working illegally for MGM? Time to hide!

B) Ordered by his MGM security employers to not give interviews, because they wanted to hide their inadequate response time and/or the exceptional favoritism they afforded the killer beforehand.

C) Ordered by gov't authorities not to give interviews because the information could still be sensitive to the investigation.

D) 'Disappeared' by some unknown conspiracy linked to the shooting.

E) Got hungry, suddenly wanted a burrito (or wotnot) and left without telling anyone.

Hrmm.... maybe it was fish tacos. Because something is really fishy about this whole thing.
