Long ago there was Nixon, the press hated him, the Dems hated him, but the public liked him enough to elect him twice.

It was almost as bad as today, but not so intense.

Is Trump playing the Press and the Dems, making them and their ilk hated by the common man.

Then today Gates said "Robert Gates: "There’s value in Trump’s ‘disruptive approach’"
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions ... dd72e93361

Am still mulling over his meaning, maybe the opinion piece has the answer.

But there is this from 2015:

Is Donald Trump a Disruptive Political Innovation?

Off White Papers , CONTRIBUTOR

Opinions expressed by Forbes Contributors are their own.

Despite all of the hoopla about Donald Trump’s quixotic quest to become the 45th President of the United States, it remains highly improbable, in spite of leading in the Republican polls, that the Donald will ever sit in the Oval Office. It is easy to cast aspersions and ridicule almost everything about Donald’s shoot-from-the-hip campaign from his inflammatory and offensive epithets about Mexicans, his over-simplified Wollman Rink strategy for the Middle East, his cringe-worthy McCain bashing, his arrogant diatribes against the Chinese (his best customers), his self-aggrandizing insults of all politicians and his mocking distain of traditional media.

What’s not so easy and a bit unnerving is to reframe Donald’s campaign using the central question of disruptive innovation theory: what job is Donald Trump really trying to get done? Maybe Donald, being as smart as he is, knows full well the job is not to become President but rather to create a crisis for the political status quo. While the benefits to Donald of running are self-evident—enormous, invaluable promotion of the Trump brand along with basking in the limelight of hyper-celebritydom—what if the real job is simply to highlight the absurdity of the existing system?

On the second page of the article there's this:
Quote:
But are we ready and can we really handle the truth?

Do we American’s really want politicians who tell us hard truths about what it will take to solve our intractable problems?
Do we really want politicians who, because they are authentic, will sometimes say the politically incorrect thing despite fear of reprisal in a our gotcha culture.
Do we want politicians who earn our trust and are not owned by special interests or the 1%?
Do we want politicians who take governing seriously rather than simply always running for office?
Do we want politicians who are polarizing ideologues or realists who can get things done?
Do we?

Saw this over at Ace of Spades.

An article related to Mr. Brokaw's quote:

Quote:
http://www.lifezette.com/polizette/tom- ... s-country/

NBC News’ Tom Brokaw claimed that President Donald Trump, and “some people on the right,” want “to destroy the prevailing culture in this country” during an interview Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

The veteran NBC News journalist addressed the president’s ongoing feud with the National Football League that began Friday night at a raucous rally in Alabama. Trump took issue with NFL players who chose to protest racial injustice in the country by kneeling instead of standing for the national anthem, saying their coaches should fire them for disrespecting the anthem and the flag.
