Hmmm, I guess they do still harbor some authoritarian tendencies . . . so . . . 95% success?

Best tank, not really a tank, of ww2 was the stug w/ 75l43. For mbt the mk4 w/ the same gun. 20/20 hindsight. imho.

Of course, w/o a trail of deuce and a halfs - no matter what ur fielding is a weatherproof seat...

FAF standard training, training both to set up and use makeshift secondary airfields and to set up force protection around the sites.

These are essentially just extra wide stretches of road, they're everywhere by design. They are essential part of our aerial deterrent. As soon as tensions increase the slightest, USA gives us a heads up or Putin looks funny on press the squadrons will be scattered throughout.

And we did keep the hooks on them too. Just in case. You never know.

That's cool.

Have any Finnish F-18 pilots actually carrier qualified?

Good question - those hooks aren't much good if you can't actually land the aircraft.

No, they don't have carrier qualification. One of the flight instructors visited USS Theodore Roosevelt and at least tried the catapult launch etc. and got familiar with Marines way of air to ground operations but I don't know if there was any landing training or so.

I suppose they maintain the capability for such cooperation in any case - they merely needed at some point to add carrier landings to training regime and they'd be good to go without any changes to the hardware.

Part of the cooperation capability involves using NATO measures, gauges and having all contact with ground control in English. Essentially, FAF is almost fully integrated to NATO without being in it.

There are foreign pilots that have trained on USN carriers:

http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=54732

Whether that actually involved takeoffs and landings....I do not know.

I also found this:

Strv is an acronym for stridsvagn ("Combat Wagon").
103 because it was the third tank tank type with a 10,5cm gun.

The engineers loved the design but it had drawbacks that the armoured corps officers were much unhappy with.
