Nimbus Brewing Co "Brown Ale."

It needs a warning label: "Warning: Only resemblance to an actual brown ale is the color, which given the rest of the beverage is probably some kind of weird food dye made from the discarded hides found next to a meat processing plant."

The very fine print says it's not like a traditional English style brown ale but is instead 'light,' crisp and with a certain 'bitterness.' Yeah? Then it's not a BROWN ALE.

Know your flavors. Nimbus Brown Ale is not "bitter" it's "sour." It tastes like bile .... possibly extracted from the bile ducts of oceanic tube worms. This is not a ... beverage ... for drinking. It's best use is probably as an insecticide for exterminating red ant colonies.

These might be the funniest words I've read that you wrote ... :P got three rounds of hoots ... that's a lot for the dog house these days ...

But the question is ... how did you stumble upon this "substance" ? I have managed not to!

Honestly, I am getting a bit tired of the IPA craze in the US as well. Hundreds of fantastic local breweries now and they all want to make an IPA. I would be ok if they served it in a 3 oz glass but if I drink a pint of the that I need a 1000mg Tylenol chaser.

You know what is really good with some tacos ...Negra Modelo

San Miguel Dark is pretty good. MacArthur used to own a share or two.

Not a huge IPA fan. Some stuff is so hoppy it tastes like syrup or something. Particularly nasty syrup.

It's a local craft brewing co. Outside of AZ you're likely only to see it in a store that specializes in a wide range of diverse American craft brews. Some of their others have been decent, but the brown ale is just horrid.

Negra Modelo is a reliable, solid performer. Not a classic anything but quite good with a meal or on a hot evening on the patio.

I'm not a fan of IPAs but I can drink one once in a while. If it says IPA you know what you're getting into more or less.

The particularly awful thing about the Nimbus "Brown Ale" is that it just says Brown Ale. The fine print is on the bottles, not the carton, and you need reading glasses. And even then, you'd think by what they wrote that it was a slightly hoppy version of a traditional brown ale. But it's not. It's shit. It tastes like you chewed up a bunch of aspirin and discovered that your canteen is dry. Except that it's worse than that. The sour flavor is chemical tasting. It tastes like it should come with a cancer warning.

I was tired of IPA twenty years ago.

Was sad to see it became a micro-brew fad in recent years. Blech!

I knew a guy who started home brewing long ago. He'd bring growlers to gatherings of his home brews. Absolutely loved some of his Red Ale he had once. But I'll be damned if he nearly always brought IPA. Every damned time, usually to the exclusion of all else. Opened a micro-brewery fairly recently. Hear it's doing good. Hope he got away from the IPA pit he'd fell into.
