Styx is predicting Biden will be the 2020 Democratic Party nominee, 'unless there is a Reagan v Mondale 2nd Debate moment.' Prompted me to look that one up . . .

Once Bernie mentioned Denmark as an example of socialism.

What I learned in school is that socialism is an economic system where means of production and exchange of goods are public owned. But I didn't notice anything like that when I last visited Denmark.

So explain me what is this fuss about socialism? ;)

Regarding the Democratic Socialists of America, you can read it from the horses mouth:

What is Democratic Socialism?

Here are some videos from the convention they just had:

I could be the catalyst that sparks the revolution
I could be an inmate in a long-term institution
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die
I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by
What a waste...

Yes. That is pretty funny. That's almost as good as "piss flaps"

Here is the tab for Reparations...$500B

That's about $13K for every man, woman and child non-hispanic black in the US (counting the incarcerated)

It's cheaper than student loan debt forgiveness.

Spiritual guru and 2020 White House hopeful Marianne Williamson on Wednesday released her plan to pay between $200 billion to $500 billion in reparations to descendants of African slaves in the United States.
The proposal calls for the creation of a “Reparations Commission” to allocate funds to infrastructure and education initiatives in black neighborhoods. According to Williamson’s campaign, the commission would be run by 50 descendants of slaves with a “scholarly, cultural, or political connection to the issue of reparations.”

“The Reparations Plan will not erase the history of slavery in America, nor of its ugly aftermath. It is obviously only one part of a multi-dimensional healing process,” Williamson said in a statement. “But it will go far toward ending a painful, horrific chapter in American history, and will give future generations of Americans a chance to begin again on a ground of genuine reconciliation.”

Williamson’s proposal references the “40 acres and a mule” broken pledge made to slaves during the Reconstruction as the driving motive behind her reparations plan.

“We have not yet fully done all that it is morally incumbent upon us to do in order to heal this ugly wound,” the new age author said.

During the last 2020 Democratic debate, Williamson argued any proposal that is “less than $100 billion” is “an insult.”

“All that a country is is a collection of people,” she responded to a question on the topic from CNN moderator Don Lemon. “People heal when there is some ‘deep truth-telling.’ We need to recognize that the economic gap between blacks and whites in America; it does come from a great injustice that has never been dealt with,” she said. “That great injustice has had to do with the fact that there was 250 years of slavery followed by another 100 years of domestic terrorism.”

This is largely mythological, btw, although one can hardly expect a new age speaker to know that.

But are the Nordic social democracies aberrations too?
If I am not mistaken, the United States is one of the few, if only countries that carry out the embargo on Cuba. Even Canada trades with Cuba.
Cuba has been a member of the World TRADE Organization for almost 25 years.
Cuba can trade with the rest of the world, yet the US embargo is to blame for all of Cuba’s woes....

Wasn't Venezuela only embargoed, and only for a few individuals/companies, in the past year or two?

It's been turning into a socialist shithole for FAR longer than that.

US embargoes caused Socialist states to fail? My ass. They don't need no capitalist American pig-dogs anyway, do they?

It's complete bullshit and demonstrably so. It's Cuban and Venezuelan propaganda designed to create imagined outside malign forces holding back their revolutionary success.

Ditto Soviet Union, Red China, the PRK and even Iran.

Any idiot who cites this claim as a reason for central command economy failure is..well...an idiot.

Right, the sanctions against "Venezuela" were not against the country itself, they were against a handful (I think about 1-2 dozen) of the head honchos in the Venezuelan government. There were some government figures who were identified as being part of the cocaine trade for example. They were on the sanctions list.

The country as a whole (like Cuba for example) has never been sanctioned.
(and even with Cuba, I think I read that other day that the US recently had about $6 billion in trade with Cuba...even with the sanctions).

Part of the reason why Venezuela is lacking in things like medicines and so forth is because they don't have any money to pay for it. Their reserves are close to exhausted and what sane business is going to ship their products to Venezuela when they have no cash to pay for it.
What sane company is going to invest in the country when their is a good chance that the government might confiscate their property.
Also, IIRC, because the country is so short of foreign reserves, the government pretty much prohibits businesses from transferring currency out of the country.
That means that even if your business operations IN Venezuela show any profits, you cannot take those profits out of the country.
