'The last fight for Hong Kong': activists gear up over extradition law

Quote:
Fears controversial bill, which has its second reading next week, will allow China to target political enemies with impunity

It has been called “the nail in Hong Kong’s coffin”, a bill that activists say will “legitimise Chinese abduction” from the city. But the city’s legislators are pushing ahead with the controversial extradition law that will give mainland China the right to request the transfer of alleged criminals.

I wouldn't go so far. Trump was not mentioned in the article at all. So I conclude that there is a strong support for civil liberties in Hong Kong; not for Trump. ;)

BTW the expression "enemies of the people" is not limited to China.

That was a bit of humour ;). Yet, I am sure that they prefer Trump to Xi Jinping.

More likely they'd like American democracy without Trump. ;)

Trump is the legitimately elected leader of the United States.
One goes with the other.

My gut is to disagree wholeheartedly. We tell them: You've got 48 hours to stand down and restore Hong Kong to the legal status specified by the treat(ies) or we nuke you into the fucking Stone Ages.

See who blinks first.

I'm fucking sick of a planet on which scum bag police states are allowed to operate with impunity. Time to wield American hyperpower with finality. We either move forward toward a free human planet or we go down in a ball of fire! :P

Would the Chicoms ruin the economic and cultural gem of Hong Kong in order to preserve control over 1.4 billion Chinamen and a $14 Trillion economy?

Why yes...yes they would. They would suffer almost universal moral outrage and greatly harm trade ties and long term development plans but consider the alternative. What would happen if they allowed a couple of thousand college students and freedom advocates to tell the Communist Party to fuck off?
