It's getting warmer.

The Russians are there, claiming the north pole itself. The Ching-Chong Chinamen are interested.

Trump wanted to buy Greenland, the Danes said no. Greenlanders wanted to buy the US because Leif was the first across the Atlantic...

Pence went to Iceland, but should be pivoting to Asia, right!?

....and Europe has no real voice about the Arctic.

What makes you say "It's getting warmer?"

December is now five °C warmer since they started to measure the temperature in 1840's in Helsinki Finland.

That much.

Russia discovers new islands in the arctic as the ice retreats! Great news. Russia always need new land.

But some islands are submerged by rising water. Dang!

But doesn't it "get warmer" and "get colder?"

You know, depending on the time of day and season? Not to mention the position within the Milankovitch cycle?

Sep 6 - USAF flies B-2 bomber sortie north of the Arctic Circle, in the Norwegian Sea. Refueling in flight from a Brit KC-135 tanker. B-2's have supposedly never been that far north before.
Nobody is happy with it.

The Russians feel uneasy having bombers close to their borders, and especially their Bastion up north. The Americans feel the money is better spent on the wall against Mexico. The peace corps don't want (American) nuke capable planes flying around in Europe or anywhere else, Bolton wants them flying against Iran...

My bold emphasis above.

Are these the same Russians who in 2007 used a submarine to drop a flag underwater under the North Pole?
You can’t get any further north than the “North Pole”?

F-16 and F-15 and F-18 are "nuke-capable". I suspect a helicopter on a DDG could carry a nuclear torpedo or depth charge.

Global warming is an established fact and CO2 forcing is the only currently supportable explanation. The effect is opening up formerly ice-closed Arctic seas to traffic, fishing, and mineral extraction. Naturally there is a kind of nation state gold rush going on to claim sovereignty in the area.

Good things about global warming:

Finns spend less money on heating oil, or less time throwing reindeer poop into their furnaces.

Sea level rise will force NYers, Californios, and Floridians to devote more time and money protecting their assets and less time whining about firearms.

A bunch of "Chinese islands" will be under water.

So the Euro peaceniks are not happy about nuclear capable planes (such as the named F-16, F-15, and F-18) flying around but are also not happy at the idea of the US exiting NATO.

Well how about this for a compromise:
The US withdraws all its “nuke capable” aircraft from Europe and substitutes a few dozen unarmed propeller driven Cessnas. That should make everyone happy.
