Yup, soon Turkiye will be just like the ooosah !!!
:D

Quote:
... Turkey is holding a referendum on 16 April on whether to turn from a parliamentary to a presidential republic, more akin to the United States.
If successful, it would give sweeping new powers to the president, allowing him or her to appoint ministers, prepare the budget, choose the majority of senior judges and enact certain laws by decree.

What's more, the president alone would be able to announce a state of emergency and dismiss parliament ...

Why are European governments so touchy about a Turkish election?

Sure, Erdogan is at heart an anti-democratic tyrant and islamist, but the real reason is they don't want the locals to see how many fucking Turks there are. And they especially dont want big crowds of enthusiastic Erdogan islamists milling about. 1.4 million expat Turkish citizens in Germany alone.

In the Netherlands, they don't want Geert gaining more support.

This article only proves two things:

1) Some of the Beeb asshats, such as this author, don't really understand how US gov't works.

and

2) Erdogan continues to turn Turkey into an Islamic dictatorship. As expected.

Tim Pool on Turkey (you can skip over the first part of the video where he tests his new drone):

Is Erdogan seriously an "Islamist?" I think he has made overtures in that direction because it keeps him popular enough that the balance between retaining power through force/popularity is favorable, no?

Seem to recall he was initially quite secular when he gained power.

He strikes me as just a straight up opportunist.

Erdogan may well be an opportunity, but pandering to the Islamist faction in the country only empowers them further.
The question is, will it ever get to the point that Erdogan is unable to put the genie back into the bottle?

Yup, that was my take too.

Quote:
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared victory in a referendum over a new constitution that will make him far more powerful, potentially for many more years to come. The result, which the opposition is calling fraudulent, promises to make Turkey less democratic, more bitterly divided and more religious than ever.

It comes as no surprise that at the last minute, when the counting showed the "no" vote was threatening the thin lead of the pro-Erdogan "Yes" vote, electoral authorities stepped in to announce they would allow unsealed ballots to be counted, in contravention to the rules. ...

Well, the thing with Islam and other extreme religions is that once you've started on the path to support them you can no longer take it back.

More money for religious causes? Try to cut that stream and you'll see just how expendable you are.

"We thought he was a pious man but it turns out he is nothing but a dirty apostate who takes money from the joos!"

The result receives barely any mention in European press and the use of words is beyond diplomatic.
