Screaming in agony, a young migrant girl gets her hair tangled in barbed wire as her family scramble through mud seeking a better life in Europe.

Barely old enough to understand what is happening to her, the girl was forced to crawl under a razor-sharp fence to get across the border into Hungary.

But as she wriggles through the dirt, her hair becomes caught and she lets out a cry of pain.

A woman, believed to be her mother, who is carrying a baby in one arm, uses her other hand to untangle her and the family rush to safety.

er plight is just one snapshot of the desperate measures taken by thousands of migrants who have fled war zones and persecution in the hope of finding promised lands in Europe.

As Budapest rushes to shore up defences on its border with Serbia, refugees continued to surge into the country in record numbers.

Some 3,241 migrants, including almost 700 children, arrived in Hungary yesterday alone, the highest ever number, according to police.

The majority crossed the border near the village of Roszke. Most of the migrants had begun their gruelling journey in Syria, Afghanistan or Pakistan.

he cross-border train tracks at Roszke are one of the only areas still unblocked by Hungary's new razor-wire barrier, which is due to close the entire 110-mile frontier with Serbia by the end of the month.

But the temporary barbed wire which lines its border with Serbia has proved to be ineffective in stemming the flow, as children are passed over and adults crawl under in a desperate attempt to cross before the four-metre high barrier is completed.

In a further sign that Budapest is clamping down on migrants, police chief Karoly Papp announced more than 2,000 so-called 'border hunter' patrols with dogs, horses, and helicopters would be sent to the frontier from September as reinforcements to the already heavy security presence.

The ruling Fidesz party said it was considering deploying the army to help stem the influx, after unrest erupted at a refugee registration centre at Roszke, with police firing tear gas at migrants.

Illegal migrants are becoming increasingly aggressive, we cannot tolerate what happened in Roszke, we cannot accept this aggression,' said Szilard Nemeth, a senior party figure and deputy head of the National Security parliamentary committee.

The move is set to be debated at an extraordinary parliamentary session in early September, during which lawmakers are also scheduled to vote on criminalising illegal border crossing and vandalising the border barrier.

As Europe struggles with its worst migrant crisis since World War II, Hungary has become – like Italy and Greece – a 'frontline' state.

Once inside Hungary, a member of both the European Union and the passport-free Schengen zone, getting to countries like Germany and Sweden – the intended destination for most – is relatively easy.

Route: Migrants are travelling from Libya and Turkey, arriving on the Greek islands like Lesbos, before being transported to mainland Greece. Their eventual aim is to get to countries like Germany - but they first need to reach the Schengen area, where borders can be crossed without a passport

Girl gets hair tangled is now headline news? FFS.

Girl sticks hand in fire, burns herself.
Girl drives car with eyes closed, crashes.
Girl climbs through razorwire fence, gets cut.

There's razorwire there for a reason, you're not supposed to be climbing through it.

Well, there is no invneting the wheel. That illustration is the same route modern man used to displace Neanderthal, agriculture replaced hunter-gathering societies, Suleiman the magnificent used to attack Europe...etc etc.

Of those 3 only Suleiman was partially turned away. This is like Suleiman II

It seems like Syrian migrants are better looking than most Arabs. Did the ugly ones join ISIS or something?

I think the stacked razorwire spools are a temporaray stopgap as the Hungarians are in the process of building more of a permanent fence.

Why is it you NEVER hear about refugees in Switzerland or the Netherlands? The Swiss probably have actual border security and the Dutch probably got tired of the South Moluccans.

Perhaps they are too stoned to realize it? ;-)
