Apparently this is a hot story now. What about white professors who make racist remarks. How many of them get fired for their remarks and how many erupt into such heated controversies?

Huh?

I saw nothing mentioning her being fired for such bigoted comments.

Do you really think a new professor who publicly said the same thing, only with the races reversed, would still have a job afterward?

I don't know if a new professor would be fired with races reversed. How many white professors have been fired for making racists comments? I haven't seen mention of many in my Internet searching. Apparently there are conservatives calling for her firing, though. Should she be fired?

Here's one:

Duke professor, attacked for ‘noxious’ racial comments, refuses to back down
May 18

Image

------------------
This one wasn't a college professor, rather a high school principal:

Georgia principal Nancy Gordeuk fired over racial remark

She DID get fired.

---------------

This UCLA Professor Called Racist For The Horrible Thing He Did To A Black Student

Image

Quote:
A UCLA professor was called racist, and guilty of a “micro-aggression” against black students for correcting grammar and spelling issues on their papers. A protest was organized and students claim the professor has created a hostile climate on campus for his actions.

--------------------

Another high school incident:

Ohio teacher fired for allegedly telling student ‘We don’t need another black President’

Image

-----------------------

Another high school incident:

Michigan appeals court: White teacher illegally fired for racial comment

----------

So my quick search turned up 5 examples, 2 involving university professors and the other three at high school level.

Are any of your examples:

A. College professors

AND

B. Fired for their comments.

It appears that the answer is "no". Am I wrong?

The Duke professor and UCLA professors were professors.

I didn't see that they had actually been fired, but then I don't think the Boston U professor that you cited in the original post was fired either.

So given that, it looks like all three professors (your professor and the two I cited) generated protests, calls for their firing, but were any actually fired?

No, she hasn't been fired, yet. But there are apparently people calling for it. Why? That's my point.

Gary,

I agree with you on that.
I think some people have gotten too sensitive over what people say; people who were exercising First Amendment right to free speech.
And I think this is more amplified at the college level

I posted in another thread that touched upon this:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=16859

That thread started off about free speech and the incident in Garland, TX, but it veered off onto the situation of free speech at colleges and universities.
Many today at universities are ready to lash out at those saying things they don't agree with and will attempt to silence them.

if you like, check out the linked thread. As I said, the beginning was about Garland but the last few pages of it vert to the college/free speech arena.

College is supposed to be a place where you can hear different viewpoints, debate the merits of people's arguement, etc; but now the trend is people going around attempting to silence those who disagree with them.

I'm glad we see pretty much eye to eye on this. :D
