Yes. The US Army (standing army as you say) was founded in 1784. The oldest unit in the US Army, the First American (Infantry) Regiment, dates to that year.

Yes, the US Army was older than 1791, but in 1791 was there much of a standing army?

IIRC, when Shays Rebellion occurred in 1786-87 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shays%27_ ... #Rebellion

and the Whiskey Rebellion in 1791-94 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiskey_Rebellion
was it not the state militias that put them down?

In 1794 Washington himself led an army of 13,000 state militiamen from Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to confront the rebels.

Since then posters in this thread have been discussing the constitutional (2nd Amendments) rights as they pertain to gun ownership, I thought that this would be a good place to post this:

Are Walmart and Dick's Sporting Goods violating the constitutional rights of those between 18-21 from purchasing rifles, when they are allowed to do so under current federal law?

Are Walmart and Dick's disproportionately impacting the constitutional rights of females under 21 for something that they (as a group) have generally nor participated in (mass shootings)?

Age is a protected class, just as religion or national origin is.

As Pool posed, what would the media and SJWs response have been had these stores after Orlando, San Bernardino, or any other mass shooting involving a Muslim gunman instituted a policy stating that they were restricting the purchase of rifles by those who are Muslim or of Arab extraction?

Substitute "religion", "gender" or "national origin" for "age" and I wonder what the response would be.

Not much of a standing army, true. People rightfully were skeptical of keeping a large army and that skepticism prevailed until 1948. The USA substantially demobilized the army after every war prior to the Cold War. It was a huge mistake to depart from that practice.

It’s an obvious logic problem for constitutional nutballs. Either accept the idea that some weapons actually do need to be regulated or embrace the McNuke. Not difficult to predict where the textbook cases of McNut will end up. ;)

The depth of that insanity can’t be more clearly illustrated.

One obvious solution has never occured to libtards - if black people could be prohibited from owning guns, the firearms homicide rate would drop by 80 per cent. Somebody get over to LGF and throw that out.

Home Invasion Victims Use AR–15 To Defend Themselves Against Five Armed Intruders

Three men were asleep inside their Glen St. Mary, Fla., mobile home when five young intruders claiming to be police broke down the front door at 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, News 4 Jax reports.

The first intruder wore a mask and shouted, “Sheriff’s office!” from outside the trailer before breaking the front door down and shooting a single round.

Upon hearing the break-in, two of the three men staying in the mobile home — one armed with an AR–15 and another with a handgun — confronted the criminals with open fire in self-defense.

The armed victims shot about 30 rounds, killing the gunman who wore a mask — Corey Lauramore — and wounding two others — William Lauramore and an unidentified 16-year-old.

The intruders’ group was made up of a total of seven young men, even though only five entered the house, including Corey Lauamore, 18; William Lauramore, 24; Joseph Albino, 24; Zachary Bell, 20; Christian Watkins, 19; Cayden Lauramore, 15; and a 16-year-old male.

The three victims dialed 911 after shooting three of the five intruders and made it out of the scene alive and unharmed.

According to investigators, the invasion “escalated” as the result of conflict between the two groups “that was stoked by social media threats.”

North Carolina C-Store Clerk Shoots Robber Who Then Claims He’s A Victim

BY DAN ZIMMERMAN |
MAY 02, 2018 |

Tevin Cameron Horton figured he’s pick up a little extra cash when he strolled into the N&A convenience store and pulled a gun on the clerk. But Bashir Aldafari lunged for the stick-up man’s gun . . .

The two briefly struggled and the clerk tried to run to another area of the store but was followed by Horton.

Police say that is when the clerk pulled out his own gun and fired shots at Horton. Horton then fled the scene, Knightdale police said.

Authorities brought tracking dogs to the store area and searched for Horton.

[news video at above link]

When they found Horton, he was leaking from a gunshot wound, for which he had a perfectly good excuse.

Horton told officers he had been shot in a drive-by shooting but surveillance video and other evidence placed him at the scene of the robbery, according to police.

D’oh!

Aldafari was unhurt and won’t be charged for engaging in lawful self-defense. Horton, on the other hand, is facing armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon raps. Another successful defensive gun use, one of 2.5 million that happen every year in the US. All’s well that ends well.

This self defense incident occurred in Brazil.

A mother in a pink shirt confronted an armed robber, fired 3 times at him, with 3 hits.
(She also happened to be an off-duty military police officer)

Article and video of the incident at the link below:
