Were that that Vatican then I suppose the black smoke means that Putin can still keep his job for now. ;)

SMOKE SEEN POURING FROM RUSSIAN CONSULATE IN SAN FRANCISCO

BY GARANCE BURKE AND ERIC RISBERG
ASSOCIATED PRESS

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Acrid, black smoke was seen pouring from a chimney at the Russian consulate in San Francisco Friday, a day after the Trump administration ordered its closure amid escalating tensions between the United States and Russia.

Firefighters who arrived at the scene were turned away by consulate officials who came from inside the building.

An Associated Press reporter heard people who came from inside the building tell firefighters that there was no problem and that consulate staff were burning unidentified items in a fireplace.

Mindy Talamadge, a spokeswoman from the San Francisco Fire Department, said the department received a call about the smoke and sent a crew to investigate but determined the smoke was coming from the chimney.

"They had a fire going in their fireplace," she said.

Talmadge said she did not know what they were burning on a day when normally cool San Francisco temperatures had already climbed to 95 degrees by noon.

"It was not unintentional. They were burning something in their fireplace," she said.

The consulate's workers are hurrying to shut Russia's oldest consulate in the U.S.

The order for Russia to vacate the consulate and an official diplomatic residence in San Francisco - home to a longstanding community of Russian emigres and technology workers - escalated an already tense diplomatic standoff between Washington and Moscow.

The deadline for the consulate to close is Saturday.

Some preparations are made.

Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded that his country’s biggest enterprises must show that they can step up arms production and important services on short notice to be war-ready.

Looks like Europe should have some co-operation too.

So then what should Europe do?
Should NATO Members increase their defense spending? (because as of 2017, the only NATO nations meeting the 2% guideline were: USA, Greece, Estonia, UK & Poland) http://money.cnn.com/2017/05/25/news/na ... index.html
I'm not sure what the spending levels are for non-NATO European nations.

Should the EU move forward with their Euro Army?

Other suggestions?

Russia tends to advance when it's possible "make a deal" with other big players - probably helps if it is possible to hinder Putin from making that deal...

Material and logistic co-operation is suggested. In European countries there is something like 17 different fighter planes in use, in mail line battle tanks some 7 models. Perhaps a little harmonization would be a good idea.

But then some people with paranoia see this like building an European army.

So it goes.

So tell us oh wise one, how did this sad state of affairs arise. Take us back to the beginnings, 1945 when the Third Reich and its fascist Italian allies lay supine and defeated and walk us through the exact sequence of historical events which led to this state of affairs.

Otherwise, what the fuck is your point?

The US has only on MBT model, Europe many. Why not European align their material and logistics, in the first stage. And this harmonization will have economical benefits too. Then the countries that feel so, can have closer military co-operation.

The common EU army is in the horizon though. And that makes causes paranoia to some. But the main property of horizon is that you can never reach it. ;)

Not able to spin the situation as being the fault of the U.S., Donald Trump, the Republican party, neo-Nazis, or one of your other perennial boogey men? Shocking to hear it acknowledged that Europeans are responsible for the primary task of attending to European welfare.
