Goal: Wind Practice 750yds

Environment: Sunny, warm, still muddy after lots of rain Thursday.

Equipment: 7.62(22), NF 7-35x T3, LRF, Kestrel, RRS, 4-wheeler. 2 mags of 4 rounds each.

Image

Activity: Rolled to 750 FP, ranged got 740yds.

Threw 4 tufts of grass in the air wind was 270 degrees off the bullet path. Measured wind for 2m, got
Low: 4.0
Avg: 5.9
High: 8.3

Held 6.0 mils and for 6 MPH wind. Got first round hit !
Fired 3 more rounds got hits. Heard wind die. Held for 4 MPH, fired 3 more rounds missed low on the last one, held higher got hit.

Summary/Results:

Again, the left/right wobble is less than the width of the target. That's the magic of the RRS compared to the Manfrottos which have wobble same width as target on both sides of target.

I was out with my Grendel again. I was getting very indifferent results before. The only time I bought a complete upper, and it had a 20" stainless AR Stoner barrel. I replaced it with a cheap Bear Creek Arsenal 24" black anodized barrel and have done much better since.

Below is at 200 yards. I'd say pretty close to .75 MOA.

Results, down from last week. And I can't believe it, but I'm pretty such now that most of the 8s and worse might be the gun. There is a lot of "rattle" between the upper and the lower and also on the butt stock riding on the buffer tube. I wonder if all that rattle matters. My default is to blame myself for all issues until proven otherwise, so I will stick with that diagnosis, but I'm 99% sure my trigger work was consistent and the results were not. An "8" result is a huge miss compared to where the reticle is pointing, which is dead center on the 10 ring.
I ordered a Tikka t1x back in April, from Brownell's to be my dedicated dot gun and they are starting to dribble in to the USA, but mine has not arrived yet.

There's definitely something positive to be said about the AK design's simplicity. The takedown is just so simple.

If I had enough scratch to spare, I'd own both an AR and a good AK made in a former Bloc state. Unfortunately the previous two presidents have made the latter's prices skyrocket. I'm just fine with the AR, though, and it's more accurate.

How effective is a shotgun against a bear?

Bird shot won't stop a bear but you can see it gives a fellow time to make an escape.

This.

Although if I were him, I would've wished I had buckshot at that moment.

20 MPH E

Goal: Get MV and Zero REM700 SPS TAC .308WIN(20)

Environment: Cool and windy. Wind blowing right in my face. Sunny and sun and glare in my face.

Equipment: Shooting buddies REM700 .308WIN(20) I just got done putting a new scope base on it and added my L&S Mk4 6.5-20x TMR and a Harris and OMEGA break and OMEGA. Commanche bag, manfrotto M055 tripod. FGMM .308WIN 175gr SMK, Magnetospeed V3.

Image

Activity: Set up at 100yds, fired 8 rds with the magnetospeed. The first six rounds were off the tripod with the commanche bag as a rest. Walked to target after each round. The first round was off the paper. So took me and the gun to 50yds and leaned on a trailer and the second round is high and left in the 7 ring. I cranked down 4 mils and right 4 mils. Then went back to 100yds.
The third round is also high and left in the 9 ring near the green dot. I cranked down 1.5 mils. I was shooting off the tripod and I knew the ind bounced me and caused my POA to move left and the instant of the shot. Oh, all 8 rounds with the magneto speed were aimed at the center of the green dot in the x-ring. So I did not adjust windage for the third round.
The fourth round was low and left in the x ring. I decided to dial up 3 clicks but forgot two and the fifth round is also low but centered from a windage perspective.
So then I finally did crank up the 3 clicks and fired the sixth round which is just below the green dot and centered.
The wind was picking up even more and blowing me around, so I decided to try prone. I could not get a cheek stock weld so I floated my head.
I fired the 7th and 8th rounds as a "group" and they are both in an overlapping hole slightly left and low of the green dot in the x-ring.

Image

So I noted the magnetospeed said the 10rd avg was 2478 and the SD was 11.

Then I removed the magnetospeed and fired a 4 rd group aimred at the orange dot low right in the 8 ring. The 4 rounds are within 0.5 inch but are high and right. I cranked 1 click left and 2 clicks down and called it good.
Oh for this 4 rd group I extended the harris all the way up to 9 inches and then I was able to get a cheek/stock weld.

Now I need to rig up a sling so I can go to the field.
