You would feel compelled just to chuck the rest of the JAMA article/publication after reading that at the start.

When you realize, that is normal in the "peer-reviewed literature," it kinda diminishes the sense of wonder and awe . . . at least in the social and behavioral sciences.

Ah, but is "medicine" an art or a science ?

I always thought it was mostly a science ... but I know greater than zero doctors who think it is an art and maybe they are right.

Like oil painting, probably an art, BUT certainly based on the science of light and pigment and eyeballs and such. The physics of oil painting and looking at oil paintings is certainly science, but we do call oil painting an art.

Likewise medicine, the physics of bones and muscles and the bio chemistry of the body are certainly sciences, but the practice of satisfying patient complaints, is quite arguably an art.

I'd say Medicine is an art that uses a lot of science!

Sargon of Akkad, visiting the US for Mythcon, takes some time out of his day to visit a gun range and fire a 50 caliber Barret (I hope I got the spelling right):

If you have the time you should spend a few minutes skimming through the reader comments on this YT vid.....some of them are fricken hilarous.

Here are a few of my faves:

Quote:

USA: you can own a rifle that would have qualified as an anti-tank gun in 1939
UK: you're shortly going to need a licence to carry a potato-peeler in public
...sigh...

Send a link to the Guardian. “Alt Right UKIP capitalist white suprematist attends pro Trump death squad training camp. Footage emerged of so called Sargon of so called Akkad using a chain saw bayoneted full semi auto racist death machine during a pro Trump death camp/immigration centre training session where targets of stunning and brave feminist icons were mercilessly cut down in an irresponsible act of barbarism. When asked for comment Mr. Akkad replied “I wouldn’t even rape you” kicked a Mexican and swaggered off laughing with Nigel Farage a KKK member and LITERALLY Hitler”

130gr 800 (FGMM)
123gr 300 (Hornady)

12G
==
No.1 500 Winchester
No.8 200 Winchester
rubber pellets 200 Winchester
Flares 100 ?
Rubber Slugs 100 ?

.45ACP
==
230gr 200 Winchester

TOTAL 14,000

==
Note, above does not count odd lots of under 100rds ... and some calibers like 7.62x51 have a number of such odd lots ... all together all the odd lots are probably another 1,000rds ...

==
This year, I doubled my live my weekly goal from 50rds to 200rds ... however, so far, I am only sustaining 96rds ... and though my previous goal was 50rds, I was sustaining 60rds .. so really only a 50% increase ... it is hard to work day job ... and try to grow up a cattle business ... and shoot 200rds of aimed fire per week. but we will see if I can do it in the cooler half of the year.

And even though my inventory has grown by 50% in the past year, it feels even more than ever that I am about to run out ... but I think that is because I'm going thru the ammo faster. But the goal is to accumulate more than I shoot and that goal is being met as well.

So far this year ... 40% of the ammo I've fired has been 77gr 5.56 and another 40% has been 175gr 7.62x51 ... the rest of the 20% has been spread out fairly evenly.

I have 2 active bolt guns ... the 7.62(22) and the .300WM(24)

And one active stoner rifle ... the 5.56(18)

And three active stoner carbines ... 5.56(10.3) .. .5.56(10.5) and 5.56(14.5) ...

One active shotgun ...mossberg T930 12G (6+1 self-loader)
One active pistol ... M1911(8+1 self-loader)

And one 6.5(18) upper which is currently inactive, having a hard time finding ammo sources, it performs very well and I have a useful amount of ammo, still trying to find more of the 130gr berger, FGMM load.
And one .308WIN(18) bolt gun which is currently inactive, the pencil barrel makes this gun useful only for testing and I use it for that, so it isn't worth selling either

I sold the .50BMG(32) as it just wasn't fitting in to my shooting style/goals.

==
Of the 5.56(18) and 7.62(22) ... about 2/3rds of those live rds at 100yd dot drills ... and the other third ... 500yds and 750yds ... day and night wind practice on 12x24 IPSC(2/3) steel (heated at night for thermal)

The bulk of the rest of the rds are zeroing all the guns and hunting/critter control.

1300-1400
70F
10 MPH SSE

Goals: Wind at 700+ yds

Environment: Solid overcast, windy and increasing.

Equipment: 7.62(22), NF 7-35x T3, RRS, FFGM .308WIN 175gr SMK. Bushy 1600 Arc Elite, Kestrel 2500NV. 4-wheeler.

Rolled up to 700yds+ area ... ranged target 674 meters (737yds). Setup RRS and rifle. Threw 2 tuffs of dead grass in the air, both moved directly aligned with the barrel. But a hunch said to hold a few inches left.

First shot was level but to the right, so held for net 2 mPH left.

Shots 2-5 were hits, I could see the motion and hear the pings.

Image

I had the NF on 20x for shooting, this puts the 6 mil line out of the 1/3rd of the bottom of the scope. But even though I standing with the tripod and the wind is blowing me around, the aimning part of the reticle (6.1 mils up and 2 MPH left) while, moving was not leaving the target. These are IPSC(2/3) 12x24 steel.

Summary/Results: There are 2 (maybe 3) splotches from yesterday. The problem yesterday was after I fired an observed erratic results, I realized the scope base was loose !
That is crazy! This week, I noticed my shooting buddies REM700 .308WIN(20) also had a loose scope base! I fixed his yesterday morning and then mine had the same problem ! What is this loose scope base week ?
All fixed now. And yes, he left his .308WIN out here since he lives in city and can't shoot long distance in the city.

I never thought I could shoot such targets from 700+ yds standing up. Tripods are magic. RRS tripods are really magic.

Both my North and South Neighbors are pulling their cattle off this weekend. That opens up another line of fire and I can get to 1,000+ yds ... can the RRS get to 900 yds ?? The world wonders!

Go trumpf go !!!! Keep bringin' those ammo prices down !! It's getting hard to get ammo now because it is so cheap it flies off the shelves !!! :D
