Now the typical hog hunting bullet for the Six Eight is the 120 SST

I'm probably sticking to 110 grain bullets. I have one box of Noslers, with the ballistic tips, and two of Hornady Match hollow points.

I'm waiting for my powder funnel to arrive. The powder dish on my digital scale has a spout which is a bit big for pouring powder into this case.

Interesting thing about the 6.5, or even the 7.62 x 39. You can use that bolt carrier group with the .50 Beowulf, as its rebated rim is that size.

Also interesting that the 6.8 descended from the .30 Remington. (Remington's copy of the .30-30) My dad has a couple of old Remington model 8's with the recoil operation. With all that metal moving, it always felt like it kicked off two rounds with each shot. He's probably got 300+ guns in the basement. Don't know where I'll put them when I inherit my third.

Got the new toy out this weekend.

It took awhile to get the sights set up. Dot sight adjustment, for some reason feels backwards to me.

I mostly used factory ammo. The production line did crank up this weekend, and I've loaded 60 rounds. It goes a little slowly, as I hand weigh every charge.

Groups were quite tight. The two hand loads I shot came out about 1/2 inch apart at 50 yds.

I'm probably going to ditch the dot sight for a real scope. I'm limited to about 100 yds with the dot, while this gun is capable of reaching out.

I put 3x magnifiers behind my dot sights. The magnifiers can flip to the side for all eyes open full peripheral vision inside 100yds ... but then flip in battery and support hitting man sized silhouette targets out to 400yds ...

Use of a reflex sight aids rapid engagement due to lack of need to obtain perfect sight picture. If the dot is on the target, the bullet will go there.

Think I may pick up a couple new guns this year for the occasional shooting fun, since I'll be back near relatives with plenty of property to shoot on. Already got some hunting rifles, but looking to get those more ominous black types which some idiots seem to think takes over your mind. :P

Gonna look around for deals on a pair of affordable budget pew pews. Really leaning toward some Smith & Wessons. Notably the M&P15 II as a good low-price AR at around $650, with some great reviews (and includes everything I want right out of the box).

Also been eyeing their M&P40 IIs for a pistol too, although I'm still quite open to other makes of .40 automatics, and haven't quite made my mind up about those. The Smith & Wessons appear to be just fine and priced okay; maybe I can get a 2-fer deal. I wanted something larger than 9mm but still relatively affordable ammo-wise, so a .40 S&W fits the bill. .357 Sig would be great but that's just gonna be more of a money sink that I don't really need.

So it comes with Iron sights, so you might go with that for a while.

But still need ammo and cleaning gear.

AMMO
So 1 in 9 twist and 16 inch barrel ... you can shoot either the 55 gr or the 62 gr ... (or others for hunting, depending on the critter).

Prices are pretty low right now but will be going up due to the SCOTUS sales tax ruling.

I've had one batch of Lake City 62 gr with bad primers ... I have had no issue with the Israeli Military Industries (IMI) ammo.

2ndacr likes Nachez and they typically have the Lake City Ammo for pretty good prices. I use sgammo in OK for most of my military calibers ...

==
On cleaning gear ... at the very least get

A bore snake
some CLP (silicon based)
Some nylon chamber brushes
Some pipe cleaners
Some dental pics
Some .223 patches
Some larger 1 inch patches for swabs
And straight one piece cleaning rod
brass or nylon patch holder
A can of kroil
a can of spray brake cleaner
a roll of shop towels
You might want some punches depending on how far you want to go with take down

some targets

Well that might be enough to get you through the first day !!!
:D

Welcome to the world of stoners !!

Rifle is the service mans bride. But I was thinking that you are married.

Or do you get some extra uumph from the guns.

You are some gun cultist indeed. You should meet a doctor and discuss about your obsession. ;)

Unless it is your missus and all is doctors orders.

Thanks!

Already have a few cleaning supplies, but will definitely need to get others.

Was definitely gonna be happy with iron sights for awhile. Actually prefer it initially - my other rifles have scopes on them.

Had been checking SGammo, thanks for the tip on the other one. I'll probably just buy something in bulk for the two calibers (5.56/.223 and .40 in 1000/750 counts) at first, for killing paper en masse.

I'd expect my first after-market upgrade would be a better hand grip for the M&P15. The CAR-style one doesn't bother me looks-wise, but it reportedly doesn't come with a heat shield on the inside.
