Why? So she could create the American Union and wrap Canada, Mexico and most of Central America into a big simulacrum of the EU!?

I didnt know she created the EU. I do know Germany's economy is among the strongest in the world. She paid off their entire deficit and Germany's middle class is thriving.

Well she didn't create it that is true. Hell for all I know she regrets Germany being IN it!

She does seem like a pretty solid leader, but I have really no idea if she would suit you in terms of fiscal and social policy. I seem to recall she is at least a bit left of center.

Sometimes, a leader plays a decisive role in shaping an economy (Reagan for example, Eisenhower too); other times a leader just happens to be in the right place at the right time (Clinton for example). I'm afraid Merkel is more an example of the latter than the former, though I admit I'm speculating a bit.

Women should not lead. When they do it's b/c men have failed and someone who actually has a pair needs to step up.

America is no better or different. We're also neck deep in shit looking for la pucelle d orléans. It's embarrassing.

Commie or no, at least she is not a laughing stock like Bronco. German don't hang their heads in shame when she appears.

I would take a bit left of center over the extreme left Bamster is at. You cannot get any farther left than Obama.

I figured some of our Euro's would jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong, but since they aren't . . . I checked, and . . . yes, I was wrong. Seems the Christian Democratic Union (Merkel's party) is pretty far right and "authoritarian." Who knew!?

As a comparison here are the main players in the U.S. 2008 election

http://www.politicalcompass.org/uselection2008

Political compass sure isn't perfect, but it is just about the best thing we have to actually pin down where a candidate and party stand in terms of fiscal and social policy.
