NZ refused entry of US warships because the US Navy would not state if a vessel carried nukes. This offended the sensibilities of the poor dears.

NZ, therefore is an exception to the anglophone rule of allies, although, on a personal level they seem very pleasant even if they are hard to understand at times.....and they have good trout fishing.

They should have got a taste of Japanese occupation. They might be a little friendlier now.

But I can see ways for smaller nations to fill good alternative roles. Maintain, for example, a fleet of 50 flight ready C-130s, with all supporting ground personnel, and provide seagoing logistics to support that, and make that available for full logistical support and that's a real commitment.

Well that would essentially rule out nearly all of the European NATO members, with the possible exception of the UK.

Germany may qualify, if you consider their Transall c-160s as a c-130 equivalent.

But that's the "entry level" price for nations like Denmark that, as you have pointed out, are small.

A regiment is normally about 3 Bn's in size. Denmark had roughly one Bn in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.

Well, I think this idea would be even harder to sell than sending 10k out of 10k. Is it really your idea that partner nations are basically auxillary forces to the United States?

Everything is "too hard" for continental Europeans. You expect the US and UK to guarantee your security and global stability, provide 97% of the combat strength, and never ask you to lift a fucking finger. Yeah. Be auxiliaries and provide significant logistical support, or provide significant field forces, or fuck off and do not repeat do not either ask or expect the United States to put its own military or citizens in harm's way on your nation's behalf.

Fish, cut bait, or stay the fuck home. But don't expect the fish delivered to your door if you choose the latter.

Your reply is funnier than you intended. Only a piker would show up to a drift-line operation carrying a fishing rod.

And if you're Danish no matter what fishing gear you bring, it's just not gonna be enough...

Which only demonstrates that you do not understand the argument at all. If Denmark is too small to contribute significant force, then the USA should not be it's military ally. If Denmark is large enough to have a significant force, but will not contribute it, then the USA should not be its military ally.

As you have tried on several occasions to both claim (as a rationalization for NOT doing much to assist the USA in A'stan and Iraq) and then disavow (because it's obvious that the WP was never and will never be landing on the Florida coast), continental European member states will never see a sufficient reason to assist the USA when the USA is engaged in a war. Not even when the USA is directly attacked. And despite the fact that the USA put orders of magnitude more men in the field to protect and defend continental European nations than any of those nations have put in A'stan or Iraq. Save one. The UK.

The UK is the only ally worth two shits that the United States has in Europe. I regret the anguish it causes you, but tough shit. If you want to count as an ally you all should have done more and better.

NATO is an utter waste of US economic, military and political capital.

Beer! You succinctly point out the uselessness of having "allies" who are unable to or won't help you. Either way, that's a bad ally. Not a bad nation or anything, but someone that you can't count on and isn't worth expending your blood or treasury for.
