100 years ago the War to End All Wars ended.

It's really quite a shame that the wars have not ended.

He's a nationalist, it's just his nation is the EU.

The French are still nationalists at heart.
If the French were not nationalists they would not make such a fuss about the French language:

Because of its precision, the French language is safest to use for the European Union’s legal business, says French writer and former permanent secretary of the Académie Française Maurice Druon.

20 March 2018: The French president, Emmanuel Macron, is to spend hundreds of millions of euros boosting the French language worldwide, in a push to overtake English in Africa, increase the use of French online and teach French to more European officials to loosen the grip of the English language on Brussels.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has rejected nationalist demands to give the Corsican language a "co-official" status alongside French, insisting that it was a "red line" issue.

De Gaulle said that patriotism, it is when you love your country, and nationalism, it is when you hate others' country. Macron tries to be gaullian in his speech.

Well, I'm pressed to find an "other country" that France does *not* hate.

Some people want a “European army”...and talk of this troubles some people.

Others want more than just a European army:

Quote:
EURO-THRONE Europe should become EMPIRE to compete with China and US, says French minister after Trump rubbishes calls for EU army
Bruno Le Maire’s controversial comments come after his President said Europe must be strong enough to defend itself in the future

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/7721886/e ... -minister/

If forming an army troubles some, then how should they react to the creation of an EMPIRE?

But don’t worry....
Quote:
: “Do not get me wrong, I'm talking about a peaceful empire that's a constitutional state.

I remember some French guy whose named started with an “N” and ended with an “n” that created an empire in Europe....anyone remember how that ended?

To be honest, the Napoleonic Code remained in place in many parts of Europe long after he was gone.

I'm good with the EU having their own continental army. The USA could exit NATO post-haste. We should do it anyhow whether the EU is ready to stand up or not.
